Brian Leslie Weiss (born November 6, 1944) is an American psychiatrist, hypnotherapist, and author who specializes in past life regression. Many Lives, Many Masters: The True Story of a Prominent Psychiatrist, His Young Patient, and the Past-Life Therapy That Changed Both Their Lives (1988). Using hypnosis to recover repressed memories, including repressed trauma, was a popular therapeutic technique in the early 1980s, when Weiss treated Catherine. However, psychologists are now split on whether this is a valid therapeutic practice. Some psychologists condemn the practice because research shows it’s possible for therapists to implant false memories in the minds of hypnotized patients. These false memories often feel so vivid that the patient fully believes they’re real, which is especially dangerous when the false memory relates to abuse. Weiss lives with his wife Carole in Miami, Florida, where he writes and conducts public seminars and workshops on the subject of reincarnation. [4] His daughter Amy E. Weiss is the co-author of his 2012 book Miracles Happen: The Transformational Healing Power of Past-Life Memories. Catherine is an extraordinarily attractive woman, with medium-length blond hair and hazel eyes. In the end we finally find out some of the good messages from the Masters which I thought very good but it was all too little too late to save this one for me. Bear in mind that in the time this book was written, there was no Google to easily retrieve any validation. From my perspective, it’d have taken too much pointless effort and detours in the book, when ultimately what matters is to let people know that we are one with the spirit. I had a baby cousin sister who could remember a past life. So we took her to the place and she had died young in that life so her parents, siblings etc were still alive and she was able to name all of them. That's the way past lives are verified for real. If a 3 year old can recall that kind of information why cant many of Catherine's past lives? Dr Weiss doesnt apply any serious scientific rigour to verify and investigate at least recent past lives at all. Why is that? I've absolutely no idea. Moreover, Many Lives, Many Masters offers profound insights into spirituality, the nature of the soul, and the purpose of life. Dr. Weiss beautifully explores the idea that we are eternal beings on a journey of continuous growth and transformation, highlighting the interconnectedness of past and present lives. This is one of the worst books I've ever read - parading as a scientific analysis when it is nothing of the sort.

Weiss, M.D. What animals make plans for industry, transport, schools, hospitals and libraries? The standard of living of the average ant hasn’t ever improved..yet humans have made huge strides to improve their way of life. If describing humans as being worse than animals is wisdom that Dr Weiss believes truly comes from “masters” of the universe, then it doesn’t seem so wise or enlightened to me. Let me stress here - I approached the book with a totally open mind. In fact, since none of us could afford a session with Dr. Weiss even if we sold a kidney apiece, I was very keen to actually learn something from it, so that maybe I could actually use it on her to good effect. I was suitably impressed when Dr. Weiss opened the narrative with his brilliant curriculum vitae and what a strong scientific mind he has. And I have nothing against the whole idea of reincarnation either. In fact, whenever I happen to find a show on it on the discovery channel or some such place, I would make sure to watch it.

Balance and harmony are neglected today, yet they are the foundations of wisdom. Everything is done to access. So, as a doctoral student myself, I can only say that you leave aside the cultural obsession with science and read this book with an open mind, and an intention to learn. What is important about this book is the message given to him throughout the sessions with Catherine. Whether there is proper scientific scrutiny, that doesn’t really matter—if you want that, there’s also plenty of academic papers online where you can read on the topic. This is all just reactionary, doom laden nonsense aimed to appeal to the least sophisticated of human thinking. “The beasts live in harmony”? The animal world is vicious, involving wanton and brutal killing for food, sex, territory and power... animals destroy each other and can often be very damaging to the rest of nature. Look at the damage caused by locusts, for example, or ants, or foxes. Humans are animals too, so we cannot be expected to be any different or, actually, any better. Yet... how many animals have invented courts and parliaments to resolve differences, create laws and govern ourselves in a civilised manner? How many animals stop at traffic lights? As someone who has psychic abilities herself, and has always had one foot in this world and one foot in the other, I have to sadly say that I was very disappointed by this book. My biggest problem with it was that I didn't find it believable at all!Just because “Catherine” spoke her words under hypnosis, why should they be considered any more valid or believable than if she had simply told a story whilst wide awake? Her stories seemed imaginative fiction to me; I could not tell them apart from many other made-up stories I have read or heard, but it doesn’t make them true. People have been telling stories ever since we could talk. There was nothing truly special in the stories of Catherine. All her historical references, which were quite vague anyway, could have been remembered from school lessons or documentaries or other books she had read, or simply from her imagination. Catherine's life in a small town had been easier than her life in Miami turned out to be, yet she was glad she had fled her family problems. You must eradicate the fears from their minds. It is a waste of energy when fear is present. It stifles them from fulfilling what they were sent here to fulfill: Take your cues from your surroundings. – Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian L. It took too long to get me to shake my initial impression of the ego centrism of Dr. Weiss. I'm certain he is a nice guy, a competent doctor, and a compassion human being. But, as I stated in our discussion while I was reading, my interpretation is that the book feels more about him than anything else. Take the title for example, it starts, "The True Story of a Prominent Psychiatrist...", I'm sure he is but I didn't feel it needed to be called out. His questions were leading and he seemed more curious about whether he was there in her past life than anything else. Some of the questions he asks are inane (e.g. after asking about how her life was (in previous life), he finds out she was poor and lost her son. Dr. Weiss asks, "Do you miss him?").
