In his writing, Peter celebrates the love between a father and son while also exploring the trauma he faced as a result of his father's eccentric beliefs.Wilhelm Reich studied under Sigmund Freud, who he later parted ways with due to a disagreement in their approaches to sexuality. In a tapestry of dream-like memories Peter Reich relates his experience of something which, when he wrote this book in 1973, he was still struggling to comprehend. I thank Peter Reich for being extremely vulnerable about his experiences through this memoir, and reminding us what makes fathers special. I think I could've just continued to enjoy the magic of the baroque-pop Kate Bush song it inspired without having read the book itself. Relationships between a son and his father has always puzzled me, and as my life has taken turns itself, it has gotten only more confusing and metaphorical.

A Book of Dreams, the inspiration behind Kate Bush s 1985 hit song Cloudbusting , and widely regarded as a classic of writing about childhood, is at last available in paperback again. While my childhood was vastly different from Peter’s, reading this book reminded me of a lot of the experiences that I probably took for granted as a kid. He also built other devices, such as "cloud-busters", which were supposed to direct orgone into clouds and make it rain. If you are looking for a book about Wilhem Reich or his work by someone who knew him best, this isn't it. One finds themselves constantly asking whether what one is reading is meant to be reality, or a dream, or under water, or in the sky.

It sort of sucked me into a mystical pseudo-scientific world I used to experience when I was a kid reading those heavily illustrated UFO and Monster-Cryptid books you could get at elementary school book fairs. As Peter grew up, joined the army, saw more of the world, he began to understand how singular his experience was at Orgonon.
