It’s ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ with XX chromosomes.” This is my type of ESCAPE TO book when I want something that isn't too taxing, but a book that will kept me engaged and guessing. i think if i hadnt read ‘the wife between’ us, i would have enjoyed this more. its a very similar story and concept. which means that if you really enjoy domestic suspense, then this is the book for you. however, some elements felt a little recycled and uninspired for me personally. The characters in this book are vile, horrid and ghastly, a pleasant reading experience it was not, I was wondering what all the fuss was about for this book, having zero empathy for the main character Amber who plays the perfect villain. It’s not til the second part of the book that I was hooked and started to get it. I did spend a sleepless night tearing through it and the ending was throughly satisfying. I left with a better taste in my mouth than I did going in. By the time we get to the last section in the book, that old phrase about ‘what goes around comes around' came to mind, along with a few other books or movies in which the tables are turned in spectacular fashion, and revenge is carried out with carefully constructed scheming.

A delicious story of jealousy, betrayal, and revenge. The only reason this book is not getting the full five stars is it was a bit slow to start.... but once it hit about 40% WOWZA things went sideways.... and I loved it!Combine this structure [introducing the antagonist first] with a very straightforward, slightly edgy feel to Amber's voice and a more lyrical sound to Daphne's – perhaps the two sisters divvied up these characters between them – and you have everything you need in both literary style and character development. Add to all of that Amber's devious plot to steal away Daphne's husband (with some twists that I cannot mention, since that would be giving away major plot spoilers), and, here too, the authors grab the reader with just the right amount of suspense to turn this into a real psychological thriller, but it is also not overly heavy or dark, making it all the more readable... continued
