After reading this book, my opinion of him has changed. LeBron shown here is a recognized and prudent person in making an initial investment decision, and what is important, he has been like this since that summer when his career in the NBA was written for him. That phrase was one of the famous marketing slogans that Nike produced around the mega-star LeBron James. I have been fascinated with LeBron as a player most of his career. "LeBron, Inc" details LeBron as a businessman and the evolution of his long-term financial decisions (e.g. multiple Nike contracts, ownership equity in Beats, Blaze Pizza and his 2% stake in England's Liverpool soccer club). The book culminates by judging LeBron's signing with the Lakers as more about business (media and entertainment growth) than basketball. I would describe this book as “surface level.” The writer did not interview James or those he wrote about, which I found strange considering they are all still alive. Understandably, it’s not as simple as calling him up and sitting down for a couple hours, but maybe people who had that access should be the ones writing these books. The only time I want to read biographies written with heavy reliance on others’ accounts is when the subject died. The takeaway from this book is that James is “good” in basically every facet, on and off the court, and I think it may have been a bit more grounded in the player’s humanity had it not relied on past interviews and statements in the context of overwhelming positivity towards James. For instance, it’s clear the writer liberally quoted More than a Game—produced by James—for his childhood and high school career. Taking everything at face value, the writer accepted the version of James’ history crafted by a team of curators on his marketing team…which, to his credit, was written about in the text.

I am dedicated to the great game of basketball and I am grateful that god has given me the opportunity to play the game I love. Above all else my family is the most important in my life and I would go to mile high lengths for them. A book I have below average feelings for and it would not come with a recommendation from me but I would mention it in conversation if related to the book topic at issue. James started playing national tournaments with his A.A.U. team at a very young age. Has he ever played a “normal” game of basketball? So I wouldn’t say I know better than Jeff Benedict because I definitely don’t. I don’t know anything about LeBron’s personal life save that he’s a proud husband and father. But I was also disappointed to find that in reading this, I learned little more. I hadn’t read much about his time growing up in Akron; I knew it wasn’t easy but Benedict gives about as full of a picture as possible. Beyond that…meh. Just a whole lot of meh.

And like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan before him, LeBron has also become a global brand and businessman who has altered the way professional athletes think about their value, maximize their leverage, and use their voice.

LeBron James: Of course I have come across a couple, but my ultimate rival is Stephen Curry. There is nobody more talented and as cool blooded than him. “Swish” is the sound of the net when Steph Curry scores, “Roar” is the sound of the Golden State Warriors fans jumping up and down screaming from the top of their lungs in happiness. He has beaten me a total of three times in the NBA finals which for me makes him a rival. In my opinion a rival is someone who is talented and has bested you in something which makes you have an urge to beat them everytime you play each other. That is how I feel everytime I match up with Steph Curry. The book in general has a very informal tone; it gave me, the reader, alot of inspiring information of my role model, Lebron James. This book made me very motivated into making my game better, and to follow in Lebrons footsteps. I received this audio book from Libro.fm. I am not an avid basketball fan, but very much enjoyed the connections of making self promises and life lessons.
