The vigorous debates in and around feminism and feminist praxis since the later 2000s have produced some of the most challenging political engagements with contemporary social and cultural life; in this they are paralleled by the more recent growing trends in anti-racist activism and action and by the growth of decolonial praxis in the same period. For example it's not about considering whether sex work should be legal, but how we can ensure the safety and security of women who are sex workers. There will be no reverence here, no tiptoeing around mainstream feminism’s dreams, no grateful acceptance of a black space that is in the gift of white proprietors.

I don’t see how it’s not contradictory to advocate for dismantling oppressive systems and then promote Marxist theory in the exact same breath, but whatever. It's a great book for anyone who is already minimally engaged in feminism to, again, wonder about what brought them to it and what makes them stay. Though, I must say that for those having a strong background on gender politics, this one might seem a bit superficial and does not dive into in-depth analysis and conceptual discussions. She points to those middle-class feminists who make much of Muslim women as needing saving from a system of oppression that is “other”, without recognising that oppression is everywhere: in the UK, two women a week are killed by a partner or former partner.

She is author of Feminism Interrupted: Disrupting Power, Experiments in Imagining Otherwise and a member of 'bare minimum', an interdisciplinary anti-work arts collective. Lola Olufemi’s Feminism Interrupted seems also to be a book about the excision of non-white battles from feminism. i think it's especially great as a primer to feminist politics in the uk currently, but if you've already read about this subject quite a bit then it might not exactly be for you. This revolutionary book reclaims feminism from consumerism through exploring state violence against women, reproductive justice, transmisogyny, sex work, gendered Islamophobia and much more, showing that the struggle for gendered liberation is a struggle for justice, one that can transform the world for everyone. Lola Olufemi, Jade Bentil and Gail Lewis discuss black feminism and other themes from the new book, ‘Feminism, Interrupted’. a lot of attention is often placed on changing policy to legalise abortion, but that doesn't always lead to 'reproductive justice' for all women.
