Please note that all versions of NumberPad only work with the Microsoft Windows operating system. The Refined White version is not available with NumberPad. Then we have two Intel chips. First, the Acer Aspire Vero is running an Intel Core i7-1195G7. This is roughly a Ryzen U series equivalent (the G denotes a superior integrated graphics chip but the processing power is in the same tier) and runs up to 28 watts. This is an 11th Generation “Tiger Lake” processor, not Intel’s latest 12th Generation; we have yet to test an Alder Lake U series processor. But these types of G processors are also found in many thinner laptops from the last couple of years, making this comparison plenty relevant if anyone is looking at upgrading. The rest should be much closer in performance to the 6800U. The HP Pavilion Aero is the one to look at to gauge the generational jump, as it’s running AMD’s 5000 Series equivalent (the 5800U) in a 13-inch laptop. The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7 Carbon uses the same CPU, but in a slightly larger 14-inch chassis—the bigger form factor may provide higher performance potential thanks to better cooling. This article gathers my first impressions of the 2022 ZenBook S13 series, based on this unit that I’ve had around for the last few weeks. This year it's mostly about efficiency and the new RDNA2 GPU, which are important for ultraportable notebooks, but aren't as relevant for high power gaming systems. Hopefully next year we see a more balanced overhaul that sees decent gains to all areas of performance.The stated 2.8 mm width of the side bezel is the distance between the edge of the non-active screen display area and the inside edge of the case. We also see one of the larger performance gains for the 6800H vs 5800H at 16 percent. On GPU workloads or games Tiger Lake was around 20% faster than the 5800U, so the iGPU update on the 6800U should definitely help to bring overall leadership in the 15-28 Watt class of laptops without a dGPU. It was pretty awsome to see how that at 90 Watts almost exactly matched the performance of my Iris Plus equipped Skylake i5-6267U dual-core with HT 48EUs, 64MB EDRAM and DDR3-1333 RAM at 28 Watts both in CPU and GPU workloads.

Besides the ability to achieve high-speed external drive performance on a non-Intel or non-Apple laptop, the most exciting capability USB4 will enable on AMD laptops is the ability to use an external GPU enclosure. To test that I grabbed an Asus XG Station Pro Thunderbolt 3 cabinet, installed an older GeForce GTX 1070 Ti in it, and plugged it in. The eGPU cabinet showed up in Windows and installed drivers from Windows Update.

Asus has gone with a 16:10 aspect ratio here, which is nice because it provides more vertical real estate than a standard 16:9 screen. I think Asus could do one better and go 3:2 for even more vertical space here, like Microsoft's Surface lineup, though that's a personal preference of mine. But the MacBook won out again at 435 nits, while the Yoga 9i (352 nits) and Ideapad Slim 7 Carbon (369 nits) were also both a bit brighter.
