Whilst heavy, tile can be acquired in both hexagonal and square tiles. In the right shades, makes an excellent minis surface.

I found out that there's a few options regarding battle mats, and don't really know what even look in the product to decide. I'm just looking for a square one, with a decent (but not huge) size, and above all, durable. I don't really care about the maker, so it can be WotC, the guys behind Pathfinder or "RPG-Tools.com", as long as I can buy it in Spain. We had a first session of dungeon crawling, and made its map with Dungeon Scrawl, but found out that going with a tablet or a print version is not the best way, as the players could see the whole layout (and its secrets) beforehand. Dry Erase Pen over the original marks: Depending on the color used (red being the worst) it leaves a slight colored hue around the old stain, but does not remove any of it.Isopropal Alchohol: Does nothing. No stain removal, but also doesn't appear to damage anything as well. Foam board and tiles can be used to create custom battle maps that are specific to your game. Foam board can be easily cut and shaped to create terrain features, and tiles can be used to create roads, buildings, and other structures. This option allows players to create unique and detailed battle maps that can be customized to their specific game. The design is double-sided (desert on one side, grass on the other), doubling the value for what you pay for. With this bundle, you get 2 battle mats that are both double-sided. With each side having a completely different look that will appeal to those who like to change up their surfaces. You get a Plain White, Parchment Styled, Grass Styled and Stone Styled surface. Meaning that there is probably a style here for everyone and it even allows for more immersive experiences. It allows you to suit the arena to what is going on in the campaign and for some DM’s this makes their job a lot easier, allowing you to better visualize the upcoming battle. Ultimately this is a fantastic bundle of different accessories and mats that make this option an amazing choice for beginners to D&D or tabletop gaming.

Gridded Battlemat with wet erase markers fun....but takes time to draw out and my skill of drawing is questionable at best. I thought that I could make my own battlemats, or having them made locally, buying the material in a hardware store / paper store and either having it etched / permanently colored with grid lines or doing it myself (a nice slow work for a rainy afternoon).
