I saw the work through, but this definitely coloured my reading: I’m not certain that I’d have read this if I’d known about these allegations beforehand.

I found there were parts of the belief system that appealed, and were more open than I had previously imagined. Prophet Muḥammad taught his Companions and those Companions taught their followers and so on until the knowledge of Islam reached the Muslims of the present day.e., « Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allâh » includes believing Muḥammad was the last of the prophets, he was truthful in all he told about and conveyed from Allâh (as were all the prophets before him), and the Creator gave us prophets and messengers (A 'prophet' is a man who receives the Revelation from Allâh and conveys it to the people. This analogy illustrates the need to start from the beginning and build upward; before one can remain steadfast in the Religion one must have the proper belief. I know of no other manual of Islam that presents the essentials of the Hanafi school and basic Islamic belief so reliably, concisely, and elegantly as The Absolute Essentials of Islam.

The prophets had miracles to support their claim of Prophethood and to prove to the people what they were teaching was the truth.

As a bit of a crash course before next year’s read of the Qur’an, Islam: The Essentials offers a good, quick overview of the faith and areas of potential conflict. This book consists of topics relating to Aqidah, Fiqh, Qur’an, Hadith, Sunnah Supplications, Salāh, Islamic Etiquettes and Illustrious Personalities.

He keeps his examples rooted in reality and everyday life, rather than leaning too heavily on the world of theoretical abstraction, which goes a long way towards humanising Islam for the outsider. I found a lot to think about in the clear presentation of the pillars of faith and the duties of Muslims. It is likely to serve the Umma, Allah willing, as long as there are English-speaking Muslims in it who want to know their din. It’s not a fundamentalist text, but it does back up its assertions with textual references worthy of an academic, so the reader is always aware of the considered nature of the work. All the prophets and messengers taught "No one is God except Allâh" and to believe in and follow the prophet and messenger of their time. Elements from core subjects have been included in the book to give students and teachers alike a holistic learning experience.To believe in the heart and declare with the tongue: « No one is God except Allâh and Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allâh » is how one becomes Muslim. Instead, he seeks the answer from someone more knowledgeable in the Religion who attained the knowledge in the aforementioned manner. What’s interesting about the reception of this work is that Muslim readers seem to respond to the provocations Ramadan suggests in his introduction in the way they’re meant: as a jumping-off point for discussion on changing perceptions and practises. Now, according to the rules of the last Messenger - Prophet Muḥammad - Muslims pray five times per day.
