This memorial is to Queen Caroline, the wife of King George II, who from 1726-1730 created the Serpentine in Hyde Park and the Long Water in Kensington Gardens. I loved Rosemary’s back story, the growth of Kate’s as the tale progressed, and the way in which each and every one of the characters are so raw and relatable. Serenity was donated by Halcyon Gallery and the sculpture's creator Simon Gudgeon to help raise funds for the The LookOut Discovery Centre, Hyde Park.

Even though the Lido is Kate and Rosemary's only common denominator at the beginning, their friendship becomes so much more over time.She swam there as a child during the war, and even had her first date there with George, her beloved late husband. At the same time, there’s a bit of history here as we wander back in time with Rosemary to the war years when she met her husband, George. We felt as if we were in their lives and with them in their struggle to prevent the closure of their wonderful community asset. This is a very touching story about an 87-year old woman named Rosemary who lives in the Village of Brixton in England.

The meadowlands are key habitats for boosting biodiversity and growing the numbers of butterflies, bees and wildflowers. Today it is used for occasional concerts, as a regular meeting point for sports and sponsored events and part of the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland event held in the park each year. What carries this novel is the friendships that begin because of the Lido, which is apparently the British word for a public open-air swimming pool or bathing beach. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers song "Isn't it a Lovely Day to be Caught in the Rain" from the 1935 film Top Hat was set on the Hyde Park bandstand but actually filmed on a soundstage at RKO's Hollywood studios.During the second half of the book, the impact of interpersonal emotions did feel more real and earned, as the characters slowly revealed themselves to each other. The story is about change and losing places that matter in people's lives so some corporation can get richer. The poignancy of Kate’s depression and loneliness in The Lido just scratched the surface of the way similar issues were dealt with in “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine”. In her early twenties she has moved from her home in the suburbs of Bristol to take her chances in the big city of London.

She loves it still, and she cannot abide the fact that the lido is being sold to private developers who want to put up “swish new high rises. POwerfully understated read that adds to the modern themes around loneliness and isolation in modern urban environments. This is perhaps a harsh assessment of a novel that has a lovely story at its centre, but the feel-good factor can only go so far.For Kate, the chance to report on the story gives her an unexpected professional opportunity and, more important, a chance to become part of a campaign that may rescue her from her own psychological demons.
