My fourth book by this author and, as expected, it was riveting and completely enthralling. But it’s not flawless. The only character I liked was Sandy, Lana's old friend. I didn't care what happened to the others. Perfectly Nice Neighbors is an A++ Legal Thriller featuring major Neighborhood Drama from Kia Abdullah. Ash and Ellie had been together for a few years when they decided they were ready to buy a house together. They come across one they can’t resist-it was an amazing deal in the country side, perfect for a young couple with dreams of a family in the future. Once they move in, their best friends, Pete and Roxanne come and visit and Roxanne is hyper critical over the house and reminds them of the history in the town, which Ash and Ellie wanted to put out of their minds because of how much they liked their new home.

Another big issue I had was the amount of slang terms that I wasn’t familiar with which took away from the flow of reading. Things started to get weird. I'm okay with weird, so I thought, maybe this one will sit strong at 4⭐️. And then it just went beyond bizarre. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars tbh. I decided to go with 4, as I did kind of enjoy reading it. Kind of. I think? I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the performance by Shakira Shute for the most part. Her use of various accents was performed flawlessly. Ash is from Australia and living in England and I enjoyed hearing the inflection in his voice. I found Benjamin’s voice to be highly annoying and pictured myself probably not wanting to engage in conversation with him because of it. I am going to chalk it up to not liking him in the first place, so my subconscious was probably looking for reasons to dislike him more. i loved the eerily realistic themes and events of the current political and social world we live in right now and think Abdullah’s writing was chef’s kiss (per usual). I know this won't work for everyone, but for the Readers who do end up enjoying it, I think they'll walk away feeling like they've had a memorable reading experience. Ellie Summers and her boyfriend Ash Brady move into their dream home. It’s in the boonies and needs a lot of work, but it has a beautiful garden. In between working on the home and adopting a dog she accidentally hit with her car, Ellie befriends her neighbor, Benjamin, who lives next door with his sister, Virginia.

One of the things that ai like most about this authors writing is that she is not afraid to go there. She will push that boundary and talk about the things that others may not be brave enough to. This book is all about racism and class. It always feels authentic in the writing and the characters are believable. You really do have strong feel is one way or another on what is happening and to who it is happening.

I did see all the twists coming though. It wasn't that I wasn't surprised by them, I literally had them figured out almost from the first quarter of the book. I really thought the author wanted us to think it was what I guessed and then I'd be hit with a big plot twist. But nope, totally predictable. I enjoyed the narrator and thought she pulled off the creepiness in the book. This made my time driving from here to there more enjoyable! Oh my gosh, I can't tell you how disappointed I am after finishing this. I am a huge fan of Tony Parsons' books and have enjoyed a few of them but this just didn't do it for me in any way, shape or form and for that, I am extremely sad. This book dives deep into the human condition. Like all the books from this author, it will stay with you long after finishing and keep you thinking… The plot also heavily centres around a family of foxes who apparently scream but definitely aren’t mating. They also howl at odd moments and can be seen cavorting around in the empty swimming pool at all times of day and night. They are more like pets than wild animals to be honest. Oh, and the swimming pool - where Lana happily lounges, and even falls drowsily to sleep - in OCTOBER.

When Ellie goes missing not long after moving in, things really get creepy. The tension in this book is great and the narrator did a great job conveying that and the slightly unsettling tone to some of the characters. A few reviewers thought that the author hadn’t written such a good book this time but I disagree, as I thought it was better than his previous one. Yes, the ending was a bit ludicrous but on the whole, it was a twisty thriller. I hadn’t worked out what was going on, until Vince revealed it, always a bonus.

Ellie and Ash can’t wait to get their new house decorated and sorted to how they like it, it was a big move from City life to Corpusty, and even more so as their house has only 1 neighbour in any direction, Ellie wants them to get on, Ash is not so worried There is a huge issue with Ash and Ellie's new house and location that the realtor failed to disclose. Add to that fact that their only neighbors are very creepy. Benjamin is the caretaker of his unwell sister, Virginia, and although Virginia seems to be the most strange, it doesn't take long for Benjamin to close in on Virginia in the creepiest neighbor category. There is also a dark basement that is a lot more than Ash and Ellie ever bargained for and what you have is a story that will make your skin crawl and make you want to sleep with the lights on at night. Great cover and simple yet alluring title which with my love of books dealing with houses and neighbours was a given to intrigue me
