I use one as a warm-up aid when I can't hit the range but still want to get a few full swings in before a round. BirdieBall indoor putting greens are engineered in the exact same way, using a dense and spongy foam material. I purposely came over the top on a few swings which I tend to do when I don't lead well with my hips, and the ball sliced just like a golf ball would. I can tell by contact whether I really hit the ball or not, and without fail, the ball flight corresponds correctly, in terms of distance, velocity, height, and curvature (or lack there of). Since it’s significantly deeper than the classic design, it takes longer to flatten out and be ready to putt.

The BirdieBall putting mat is a solid overall product, and any kind of putting practice is better than none at all.Any strike compresses the bal to some extent, but imparting spin has little or nothing to do with how much the ball is compressed by the contact force from the club.
