From the very first line I was hooked, drawn into the world of Alice Kelly, a girl who is so so special. Vielleicht stehen auch im Buch an diesen Stellen keine Jahreszahl zur Orientierung, aber bestimmt fängt immerhin ein neues Kapitel oder so etwas an. She struggles with her mother, who is later diagnosed as bipolar, and younger brother, but is supported by her older brother. There isn't a plot as such, it is a story of Alice’s life, but you can't help but be drawn to her and knowing you can't give her a hug (it's too much for her to cope with) I felt protective of her.

That is the one thing I really didn’t like about this book the jumping about with no warning it was very hard to keep up with. This is a book for you if have read others by Cecelia Ahern, are interested in auras, or simply find it fascinating to 'people watch'.And what happens, if someone with synesthesia comes across someone who reflects no color whatsoever?

For the love story, I felt the connection between Alice and Andy was a bit forced for one reason, but I am likely to understand that love and marriage are not perfect. The concept of seeing colours to represent emotions is genius, to have the main character be able to see and absorb these feelings and how this insight into others might not be a ‘gift’ is just captivating. Alice and her synesthesia make this such an interesting read, and as we follow her and see the impact this has on her life you can’t help but love her. It seems mean to give this only 4 stars but looking back at the books I've given 5 there really has to be something that blows me away.Ahern's books tend to have some small fantasy element to it, but the premise of this one completely fascinates me. She is 8 when the story begins, and she has a complicated home life, living with two brothers and her alcoholic mother. Unusual subject matter of Synesthesia which I had come across before but not to such an extent as Alice, the main character together with a gift of insight makes this an unforgettable book.
