However, if you’re already using Gunfighter, you would be just fine without switching to this unless you’re shooting in extreme heat, dust, or damp conditions.

Remember that this is to help your guns run. It isn’t good for cleaning or preserving firearms because it can’t create that protective polymeric film – you’ll need to get one of the oils in the next section for that. All in all, this works very similar to Gunfighter Oil. Personally, I use the Militec-1 for heavy duty firearms and it’s also great to use in extreme weather conditions. Even in high heat, your guns can stay lubricated for longer because Militec-1 has a super low evaporation rate. This is also great at protecting your guns from dampness if you need to carry your firearms in the rain or on a boat. Natural vs. Synthetic:Just like with motor oil, you can find natural or synthetic gun oils. Natural oil is generally cheaper but synthetic oil typically has better qualities to help it protect as a lubricant.

The last thing you want is your oil turning into something with the consistency of cold gravy that will then cause your gun to not cycle. Not including the original Hoppe’s No.9 Oil on this list would feel like blasphemy. This is what I started with, and is what my father and grandfather started with as well. If you’re going to maintain your guns properly and you want your firearms to achieve their best performance, you’re going to need a good gun oil. There really isn’t a negative on this one. It’s one of the cheapest on the list, and is incredibly well-made. It’s my go-to cleaner and lube and the one I recommend the most. If you’re looking for a cheap option that will last forever, it’s hard to do better than a can of Ballistol Multi-Purpose Aerosol Spray.
