Extra Old Plantation Barbados (ve verzi 20th Anniversary) je „k mání“ i v každém větším obchodě, dokonce nezřídka i v akci. Takže pokud vám padne v supermarketu při nákupech do oka, klidně si jej přiložte do košíku. Takto rumy z Barbadosu (a dalších karibských zemí), které tam několik let zrají v sudech po bourbonu směřují do Francie a kde pokračují ve zrání v dubových sudech po koňaku Pierre Ferrand XO Grande Champagne. V současnosti společnost vlastní i známou barbadoskou destilérku West Indies Rum Distillery, kde se kromě rumů Plantation rodí i Bumbu, či Dos Maderas rum. Výroba Plantation XO 20th Anniversary O dvacet let později bylo všechno jinak. Naštěstí, dalo by říct. Díky tomu vznikl rum Plantation 20th Anniversary XO, oslavující 20. výročí tohoto báječného spojení.

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks. Taste: It is not very sweet, just like dark chocolate should be. Chocolate flavour is the most distinguishable there, with some nuts and hints of oak . If I take into account aroma, taste and aftertaste it is really complex rum and just plain perfection. 5/5 I’ve had a lot of Foursquare rum. They make great rum without needing to rely on aging outside of Barbados and the sweetening. The few Mt. Gay I’ve had were nothing spectacular but they were decent. Still, it’s a lot better than everything being indistinguishable from one another because of all the added sugar. Not generally disagreeing with points raised in this “review” of the Plantation XO 20th Anniversary, but there’s a few comments I’d like to make in response:Tak tuto láhev na polici v obchodě rozpoznáte ihned. Ať už bude ve vysoké pěkné nastajlované krabičce hnědé barvy, nebo bude jen tak samotná. Láhev (0,7 l) je jinak docela masivní a těžká se silným dnem. Při nalévání je to opravdu fajn pocit mít ji v ruce (jen ať vám při tom nepadne na nohu…). That’s the point there. Nobody is stopping them from making what they want. But they want to use the Barbados rum name to make some of their rum more prestigious. They can still sell their product as rum but not as Barbados rum. Thanks for commenting. Cognac actually allows dosing. The big boys dose their Cognac to maintain consistency. I don’t know if Ferrand doses their Cognac. Because I’ve only had a few of their Cognacs but I’m more likely to assume they do. Alexander likes to talk about how they age their sugar syrup in barrels to, the way I see it, elevate dosage. Palate: Surprisingly sweet palate entry, with molasses and hints of leather to the fore, alongside orange rind and salted butter. Allspice. Its time for Bajan rum along with Jamaica and Martinique rums to be recognised as the world standard quality products they are, its a shit fight to get that recognition and people like MF who are making a ton of money from the work of others, whilst pretending to fly the flag of quality are no better than pimps.

The addition of sugar syrup and flavorings is prohibited. However, caramel coloring under strict guidelines will be allowed for consistency. Maturation must be in new oak or in refill casks from a list of recognised wine and spirit denominations.

I find the diversity fascinating, exuberating. The joy of tasting the best rums right out of the still from one island to the next is blissful.
