There is no need to toss this rice after one playtime! You can use tupperware or cute bins to store your sensory components. You can leave the bin out for a few days of play OR you can store the rice for next time. I tend to leave my rice out a month or so, then switch to a new sensory bin base (like cornmeal or water or beans). I found the pasta doesn’t create as vibrant a color as the rice, mainly because the base pasta is yellowish. But you can make some interesting shades. Water Beads Wooden weather symbols: I took some pieces, including the large umbrella, from our balancing weather puzzleand also used our Grapat raindrops and Grimms rainbows. Grimms also do a great weather set. It’s been three weeks since I first put this bin together for my son and I don’t see us putting it away anytime soon. Even though, we do not need to qualify or justify an activity for children (all play is learning) it’s still fun to think about everything kids are learning with just colorful rice.

We don’t use this bin very much. Too many pieces get eaten. But if you want a tasty treat grab some colorful cereal like Froot Loops.

Kids are so smart. They understand rules and boundaries, as long as we are firm, clear, and consistent with them.
