The soundtrack's modest highlight and perhaps the film's closest brush with creativity is a slowed-down, mariachi version of The Miracles' 1970s disco classic "Love Machine", performed by the film's prominent offering to Mexico, the lucha-masked and caped El Chupacabra (Carlos Alazraqui). For the week that ended on December 1st, Pixar and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Monsters University took back the number-one spot on both the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. The film struggles to inflate itself to theatrical proportions, reaching for the stars and barely lifting off the ground.

It is however very watchable but almost like a copy of the first cars movie on premise (if you replace planes for cars). Not so surprising considering the psuedo-sequel began its life as a DisneyToon Studios direct-to-video project and was only later promoted to feature film once the powers that be started to see box office potential. Planes is at its finest when imagining how a society of planes would function in the larger Cars world, and when humanizing its aeros and autos.

Dane Cook, seemingly the most widely reviled individual in stand-up comedy and whose film acting career ended in 2008 even more abruptly than it began in 2005, handles leading man duties without anything resembling a joke. Balancing out the derision doled out by those he looks up to, including the cocky defending champion Ripslinger (Roger Craig Smith) and the condescending Brit Bulldog (John Cleese), Dusty receives support from his friends back home, including his mechanic Dottie (Teri Hatcher) and his enthusiastic best friend Chug (Brad Garrett). From the maligned Cars 2 comes the international hotspots, a colorful cast of multinational racers (each one showcasing a bigger stereotype than the last), the thrills and chills of a worldwide race mixed with. Younger children will have a blast, if only because they won't notice just how much Planes begs, borrows and lifts from a hundred other underdog stories. Peter takes you on a passionate guided tour through the fantastic range of hand planes available to woodworkers and furniture makers, and shows how to select the most suitable plane for a variety of.

Realizing how much of the film was a personal passion project for Hall makes for a richer experience. Its supplemental package is much too direct-to-video for a film that earned a theatrical release, but complaints end there.That design paid off on Cars 2 and on DreamWorks' Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, each of which made around two-thirds of their money overseas.
