This depends on the area in which you live and how often your sterilizer is used. If the water in your area is hard, then you may need to descale every 14 days. If it’s medium, then you’ll need to descale every 21 days and if the water is soft, it’ll need to be descaled around every 28 days. To help you get started and to keep it working effectively, we’ve added all the guidance you should need, plus some handy hint, tips and troubleshooting advice. Simply use a de-scaler that’s suitable for stainless steel i.e. kettle, iron and coffee machine de-scalers. Alternatively, you can use white vinegar, however this will need to be carried out more frequently as it’s not as effective as a purpose bought de-scaler. Plug into the power, press the on/off button then select the function you wish to use – sterilise only, dry only, auto sterilise and dry or storage function. Press this button alongside any of the functions above to allow items to be stored in the steriliser. The steriliser will run a programme that emits 5 minutes of UV light and 5 minutes of drying every 2 hours, to ensure items inside remain sterile. You can open the door and remove one product, then press the storage button again to keep the remaining items inside sterile. Cold-water units vary in size, and you’ll also need somewhere to safely store the dissolvable tablets. Baby sterilisers have come a long way, especially in the past five years. The three main types of sterilisers are steam units (which can be used electronically or in the microwave), cold-water systems, and UV light sterilisers. Some have two tiers, while others are combination sterilisers suitable for both microwave and cold-water sterilising. Another feature of the sterilser-dryer combo, is the HEPA air filter which helps to keep surrounding dust and dirt particles out air used to dry your bottles and feeding accessories, so they stay clean once sterilised. I just prefer the cold water one as it's really convenient as all you have to do is add the water and he tablet and then you can keep adding things in and taking out as you need for 24 hours. We appreciate how easy it is to use the sterilizing function thanks to clear manual instructions (push one button after adding some water, and you’re good to go). On the other hand, the warming process was slightly confusing, and difficult to tell if it was working or not. Depending on the volume of the milk, the timer shows the number of minutes necessary to warm the milk, but the process is not intuitive.
