Rags, steel wool etc must be saturated with water after use or placed in a sealed, water-filled metal container, before disposing of them with household waste. If the surface absorbs the Polytrol unevenly (i.e. some matt and some shiny patches) move any surplus oil from shiny areas to matt areas. It varies as to how often Polytrol will last depending on the levels of UV rays, weathering and pollution the surface is exposed to. As a general rule of thumb, Polytrol will usually last around 12 months before you need to reapply. It’s important that any rags you have soaked in Polytrol are properly discarded or they could spontaneously catch fire. See Polytrol’s full instructions for more information.

As most front doors are quite small, you can usually do it all in one go. DO NOT use Polytrol on white surfaces, it will not work as Polytrol is designed to restore pigments. The door didn’t take us longer than 20 minutes so we could do it all in one go but if it will take you any longer than 20 minutes, you will need to work within areas that can be completed within this time-frame.
