But rather than repeating the success of its predecessor, Selick's 'Coraline' gives audiences a darker undertone, where wish-fulfillment suddenly turn into true a nightmare. It’s a tad bit sad they opted to get rid of that but with the later introduction of Blu-ray 3D and use of that format on the later LAIKA Studios films, it made sense to not reproduce that for these later releases. The seemingly innocent pictures on the wall aren’t innocuous background details - they’re hints and clues.

These play as a slideshow but you can use the chapter forward and backward buttons on your remote as well as pause to navigate if you’d like. This new Dolby Atmos sound mix comes as an improvement over the original 2009 Blu-ray and even the Shout! It is a highly dynamic track, with plenty happening, surrounds are used to give some nice ambient effects and used to fill out the score.Overall, the bonus materials are almost all of the same things you got on the original 2009 Blu-ray with a little more added.

This movie is a really trippy and heartfelt good time for both adults and a lot of fun as a fantasy with a message for younger audiences, which it is intended primarily for.Marvel at the smoking gravy-train that circles Coraline's doppelgänger family before arriving at her mashed potatoes. After more success with James and the Giant Peach and a few other films, Selick and Neil Gaiman teamed up for Coraline, based on Gaiman's book of the same name. It might be aimed at kids, and they will love the colours the moral and the evil hidden within, but looking through an adult’s eyes this is something deeper, something more malevolent and deeply horrifying. BD-Live Functionality: Universal has made it known that an exclusive interview with the director, as well as other BD-Live content, will be available when Coraline arrives next Tuesday. Only those willing to make the jump into the 3D realm will want to add this to their collection, while owners of the previous 2D version will be satisfied with their original purchase.

With Gaiman's ideas lengthened, including the addition of slouching friend Wybie to help Coraline out, the picture has difficulty keeping perfect time. Even so, those who do plow through the entire 3D experience will be rewarded with at-times amazing depth of field and lifelike dimensionality.

Despite these few drawbacks, 'Coraline 3D' is still a fantastic presentation sure to make many fans and 3D enthusiasts happy with the picture quality.
