Whether inside the cabin or outside in the dark woods as Cheryl runs from some ravaging trees, there is a great deal of definition in the foliage or random objects littering the cottage. Black levels are greatly enhanced with the HDR/Dolb Vision here, more so than the colors will due to the low light. The superior quality copy of the short film Within The Woods is a big upgrade to the standard internet VCD version. Instead we shifted to a grungy apartment in Los Angeles where a mother is turned into a deadite and tries to go full demon on her family. Following the same general story structure of Raimi's short film, 'Within the Woods,' the film follows five college students traveling to an isolated cabin for the weekend.

The full screen version on the UK box-set is the same transfer as was used on the earlier Anchor Bay 1-5 picture disc DVD releases, and has the Cheryl zoom tweak, but the lightning shot has been put back in. on the subject, but why couldn’t we have had John Carpenter, Wes Craven (the in-jokery would then have been complete), Bill Lustig, Tom Savini or David Cronenberg, or any of a couple of dozen other more interesting and articulate genre filmmakers cropping up to dissect the film?

Discovering The Evil Dead" (13 min) — Made by the fine folks at Blue Underground, this is a great piece that gives a quick overview of how the movie made history and its reception in the United Kingdom. Not only the primaries - ie, the red blood - but the autumnal shades of the leaves and the trees and the distant mountains that we see at the start.Black levels are certainly the strongest that I've seen for this movie, although they still aren't always excellent by many other standards. The crunching gasps and snarls that move from right to left across the front as Cheryl stupidly investigates the woods on her own. The 2002 US R1/2 Anchor Bay The Evil Dead: Book Of The Dead DVD sparked a debate over whether The Evil Dead should be seen in widescreen of fullscreen. This Blu-ray edition is without a doubt the very best audio/video presentation of the movie ever released for the home market. This is made more surprising by the fact that the director was only 21-years-old at the time of filming.
