How often you need to descale an electric kettle depends on what kind of water you put into it, and how often you use it. A mixture of equal parts vinegar and water, then leaving it in your kettle to soak overnight is my favourite method of removing limescale from a kettle. This ensures long life for your electric kettle, and ultimately, it saves you from having to buy a new one ever so often, especially if you live in a hard water area. How To Keep Your Descaler Ball in Good ShapeIt’s worth descaling your kettle on a regular basis to keep limescale at bay. If you allow limescale to run rampant in your kettle it will look horrible, it may make your boiled water taste funky, it can reduce your kettle’s lifespan, and it can also make your kettle function ineffectively. Almost any kettle you buy from a reputable manufacturer will come with some sort of limescale filter in the spout, which is designed to separate the limescale from the water as you pour. And if you fill your kettle up with soft water but you don’t boil your kettle very much, you should descale your kettle every two to three months. Failing to wash your kettle descaler ball will cause whatever limescale it has collected to eventually accumulate and harden. And once this happens, the hardened limescale cannot be removed without the aid of a chemical descaler solution. Aside from keeping your kettle free of limescale, this ball is also meant to reduce water boiling time, and therefore reduces energy costs, too. It also increases the life of your kettle.
