Very spacious and we had a very comfortable stay. There is a cloakroom in addition to the 3 bathrooms. There is a notebook to write any housekeeping points - which we completed for the cleaners for next guests- a few niggles.. The house was spotless and really comfy. Right in the middle of town so walking distance from everything and easy to drive to the walking routes! Christopher de Bellaigue is a regular contributor to some of the world’s most trusted media outlets, has held fellowships at Oxford and Harvard and has lectured in boardrooms and universities around the world.” We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, the facilities are fantastic for family gatherings with good equipment and lots of extra thought on making our break comfortable."

Key sustainable design principles were employed, which involved maximising the opportunities for passive building design. The building fabric had to achieve a high energy efficiency rating as well as electrical systems and technologies to reduce energy loss during the building’s use. The house has lots of character and space- both things we appreciate. There are a lot of things to see and do nearby. Pell Frischmann has undertaken significant design changes to Centre Point House and Centre Point Link to enhance the new public spaces. Using modern analysis techniques, we were able to reassess existing columns and justify the removal of two entire floorplates at mezzanine and first mezzanine levels to create new double-height retail space. In addition, to enhance the value of existing spaces, we have created more accessible and usable space by adding several lifts and stairs and extending the basement to make room for plant areas and tanks. All the works had to be carried out while residents inhabited the upper floors of Centre Point House.Needed weekend accommodation in centre of Ashbourne & this was perfect for our needs - spacious, clean & comfortable." The kitchen is georgeous and well equipped (thought a few more forks would be conviinient). The only thing you have to get used to is the AGA, a very special hearth/oven not easy to cook with for the uninformed. If you know a fair amount about Suleyman as well as about Venetian politics in the 16th century, there isn’t much here that will be new to you, though it’s well told regardless, and the audiobook is narrated beautifully. A beautiful cottage, decorated and presented to a high standard with all the mod cons. It really felt like a home from home and was so inviting and relaxing. So much so that I've already booked for next year. Lots of character and in a great location. Perfectly placed to explore beautiful Dartmoor. Nice that original features have been kept from when this was the village bank. Lovely Aga, very comfy bed, great facilities (dishwasher, washing machine etc). Recommend the French artisan bread van (The Van du Pain) that parks right outside on Tuesday and Saturday morning. Shame the weather wasn't kinder so I could have spent more time enjoying the nice roof terrace. Great communication from friendly host. Thank you

Welcome to the Lion House

We don’t actually hear much about Charles V in this book, which I suppose is okay in the sense that Suleyman is the more intriguing figure in general and the perspective from which we’re meant to view the events in this particular account, but it still leaves the content feeling unbalanced and Charles appearing to be an unworthy adversary. Which is some respects, he was, though not to the degree to which it might appear here. It had everything we needed and more... the location was great for exploring the Peak District. It was warm, even despite what the weather tried to do!!! Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor (1500-1558), King of Spain, scion of the Hapsburg Dynasty, who ruled an empire encompassing most of the Americas and the Philippines as well as half of Europe Even after a major victory over the Hungarians at Mohacs, the vassal rulers left by Ibrahim have dubious loyalties and the ultimate goal -- Vienna, home of Suleyman's great rival, Charles V of Spain -- remains out of reach.

The ground floor has been infilled with frameless structural glazing. The most prominent area of ground-floor glazing is the retail unit that sits under Centre Point Link. We wanted the link bridge to appear to float above the retail space. To achieve this appearance, the retail space required maximum transparency and minimum structure. This presented several challenges. We engineered frameless insulated glazing units that stand 5.5m tall without any metal support framing. Large structural movements from the existing 1960s structure had to be accommodated by the glass within very minimal head and base restraint details. When fixing the head details, we had to avoid any drilling into the high-strength steel tendons of the post-tensioned bridge structure above. The south façade features 5.5m-tall sliding doors, with 4m x 3m door leaves to give a full opening width of 12m. This required extensive testing for weather-tightness and cyclical testing of the moving mechanisms. Carpets a bit tired but that does not effect you stay its cosy and comfortable. In a good area for walking and visiting the local area.The local people are friendly and helpful. Ther were no problems parking as we were allocated private parking. Key safe easy to find.i took my mum there for her 80 birthday present she loved it she said it was amazing. The house itself is immaculately clean and in a great location for Dartmoor. The facilities at the house are all of high quality and the hosts really helpful. Parking is easily available on street outside Lion House. A great venue in a super location. A lovely, spacious, comfortable house in a great central position, and we really enjoyed being there."

I don't blame myself too much, though, because the writing style is so much like fiction, and it's so immediate, I probably would have forgotten it was a book of straight-up non-fiction even if I'd known at the start. Above this are around 30 storeys of residential, with between one and four flats per floor, ranging in size from one to five bedrooms. These are cleanly and intelligently planned with cores and service rooms massed along under the central spine beams. All partition walls are designed to meet the outer façade at right angles, so as to minimise the sense of a retrofit, giving the feel that the new layouts on each floor are ‘how it should have always been’ as Conran senior partner Tim Bowder-Ridger puts it. This quirky dwelling was a former bank and still retains some original features including the vault door and gate into what is now the kitchen/diner. We also had an issue with the TV service which after phoning the owner an engineer arrived the next day and all was sorted within 24 hours. The Lion house was a lovely place to stay and has everything you should need, but to be honest the places to eat nearby were excellent so if you want a totally relaxing holiday with nice walks on the moor and also close enough to travel to the coast.this is the place to stay. However, moving the two sets of stairs internally makes for a slightly crammed entrance area. One set indeed is essentially excess to requirements, so has been treated more as a sculpture; a frame to a neon artwork by artist Cerith Wyn Evans which, riffing off Duchamp, is called Neon Descending a Staircase.
