This 20-year-old tawny port from Graham’s is warming and stylish. It has nuts, dried fruits and orange peel coming through in the aroma, then follows through in the rich, slightly sweet and very smooth taste. It has a silky texture and a hint of spiciness in the long finish. If you open it up among a group of friends, we would be impressed if the bottle lasts until the end of the night – this stuff is seriously moreish.

Ruby port – These tend to be inexpensive, deep ruby-coloured, and often associated with the cheeseboard. Within this category, you’ll find your slightly more premium reserve ports, late bottled vintage port (otherwise known as LBV, these are aged for longer but still designed to be drunk young) and vintage ports. True vintage Port is only made in the best years, it’s aged for a couple of years in wood, and then will need at least 20 years to mature in bottle. At 23, this Croft is now really singing.
