What special challenges did you face creating the model? What was the most difficult part to recreate? Is there a LEGO designer (official LEGO designer or fan designer) who you are inspired by and look up to? Who and why? I built the model both as a real model and as a digital one. I used Stud.io to build and render the digital model. How long was the process of making the project did, and what did you have to research as well. What kind of prep, research and design phases did you go through to produce your creation? I am very happy with how the head tilt and turn mechanism worked out. It was the most challenging part of the build.

If you could talk to yourself before you started on this project, what would you tell him? What do you know now that you wish you knew then? What is your favourite LEGO IdeasProduct Idea(besides your own of course)?Are there any Product Ideas you think have been overlooked?

The Liebherr 9800 Set 42100 is currently my favourite set both because of its mechanical complexity as well as the versatility of the set for making MOCs. I’ve made several alternative MOCs of this set which included a version of Johnny 5. I still have alternative MOC ideas for this set which I’m planning to build one of these days. What is yourfavouriteLEGO theme (current or past)? Why? And has any theme inspired your building style or preference in anyparticular way? It was probably the torso section of the build. This section holds the mechanism for both tilting and turning the head. The combination of these two movements made it challenging. I had to work with the motor at an angle while the head is vertical. Have you created anyLEGO MOCs (my own creations) that you’re particularly proud of? What is it, why are you proud of it and do you have a photo of it?

Jason Alleman. I like how he makes MOCs that are both aesthetically pleasing as well as mechanically sound. This model is fully motorised using Powered Up motors and hub and controlled through a mobile device using the Powered UP App. It uses Technic parts to ensure stability of the structure, and System parts to capture the look and form of Johnny 5.Do you have plansto submit any otherProduct Ideasin the future?If yes, can you give us a hint of what that might be? The design is clever and interesting for the most part, though not quite up to Lego's standards. Some larger parts are held on by one stud, and there are several instances where Lego would have found a better/more secure way to accomplish the task where this model goes with "good enough." There are a few "illegal building techniques", too--several instances of studs mounted in technic holes. I like the piano and the way it was designed and built. With regards to overlooked product Ideas, I think that LEGO Ideas overlook technic-built and motorised product ideas.

Most importantly though, it has to be worth your effort - you have to have fun while creating and promoting it since that’s the point of this hobby. What is your favourite building techniqueor part/sectionthat you’ve incorporated into your Product Idea?As expected, there were minor issues with part tolerances--plates placed side-by-side had an angled gap between them, and some technic axel pins fit too loosely and would slip out. One of the arms was too loose and would fall out, but I was able to swap the loose part with another of the same part from somewhere else in the model where a tight fit was less essential, and it held together. You would -never- see an issue like this with genuine Lego, but then this is why Lego costs double what this set cost. What is it about the platform that attracts you? What tips would yougive to anyone who is thinking about uploading an idea?
