One thing about the fancy inverter/chargers with AC pass through is that they wont turn on unless they "see" DC voltage.

The question: doesn’t having the temperature sensor in direct contact with the heading pad result in it detecting warmth too soon and shutting off?

It would be very helpful if you included the butt connectors, ring connectors and the 4 pin wire connectors. I think, I'm going to run the liths down about half way and disconnect them, then hook up a lead acid. Besides the heat pad, which is set to come on about 38°F I also have a total disconnect of the batteries from everything set at about 35°F. I, being the ever bright engineer, took four eight foot lengths of 3" ABS pipes and laid them on the nearly flat roof of the patio.As the temperature sensor needs to fit closely to the battery, make sure to measure your wire length and always leave a little extra length until you are ready to complete the heat pad’s installation. Plan "b" of the small heater is working as a bandaid for now but rather have something running in the backyard that will work if I'm not around.
