Once you’ve figured out whether you need a register plate or a closure plate to go with your stove, you need to make sure you buy the correct size register/closure plate. Our simple register plate form makes it easy for you to tell us what size and type of plate you would like. a number plate in the current format with a year indicated by a two-digit number (as used from 2001). If you have an unlined chimney then you should choose a plate which has an access hatch for sweeping access. When you sweep the chimney you remove the inspection hole cover plate and at the same time hoover or sweep any debris that has fallen on top of the register plate. As well as thinking about the size of the base of your chimney cavity, you should also be aware of the diameter of your stove pipe; this will need to fit through the closure/register plate.

CUSTOM MADE REGISTER PLATES FOR LINED CHIMNEYS CUSTOM MADE REGISTER PLATES WITH HATCHES FOR UNLINED CHIMNEYS If a 904 316 chimney liner is being fitted then a register plate is not required. A plate is still required (to prevent heat being wasted by travelling up into the chimney and also to prevent "old soot smells" into the room as a chimney warms from the heat of the liner) but this plate is called a closure plate which we will come to shortly. It is rare nowadays that chimney liners are not fitted (although stove flue pipes might be connected directly to pot lined chimneys) and register plates are rarely fitted nowadays. Many register plates feature small access hatches or doors. These are there to provide access to the chimney cavity so that a chimney sweep can still inspect and sweep your chimney etc. In addition to a closure plate, you will usually need a sealing plate too (sometimes called a finishing plate). In the image above the register plate is for a large fireplace recess. There is a hole in the middle for the flue pipe and two hatches either side for accessing above the plate to retrieve soot. In smaller fireplaces there may be little room for these hatches and this causes difficulty. It is usually the wisest choice to fit a chimney liner and avoid the need for a closure plate. Instead you can fit a more simple "closure plate" (see lower down in this article). A closure plate does not have to be metal and does not have to have access hatches. If you buy a brand new vehicle, the dealer will usually arrange for it to be registered. Otherwise, you need to register it yourself. If your chimney is square or rectangular we will need length and width - less half an inch, to manufacture your chimney register plate. If your chimney is irregular then measure to the narrowest part. Remember to measure at the height where you intend the plate to go. Unless otherwise specified the flue hole will be central to the steel register plate. On average, the lifespan of a chimney liner is around 20 years , after which time you will probably need to get the entire liner replaced to ensure it's still up to the job and not a serious fire risk. If you opt for our Ultraflex 904 grade, the minimum life expectancy is 35 years. If you’ve not yet installed your stove, then you may be deciding whether or not to use a chimney flue liner with it.Note: The plate is supplied without screws and is coated in a protective film of oil and which should be removed with thinners before painting. Building Regulations dictate that the minimum flue diameter for stoves up to 20kW burning smokeless fuel should be a minimum 5inch / 125mm diameter.
