I wanted an emotional biography about one of the coolest bands of that era, with personal details about how they and Debbie Harry herself came to be. She and Stein were keen to re-make the 1965 film Alphaville, and even bought the rights from its director Jean-Luc Godard for a thousand dollars. We learn how, having been given up for adoption at three months old, Harry was raised by her adoptive parents in New Jersey. The scope of Debbie Harry's impact on our culture has been matched only by her reticence to reveal her rich inner life--until now.

From an irreverent Lower East Side punk goddess to a bona fide international ambassador of New York cool, Debbie Harry will forever be synonymous with that punk spirit that lives somewhere in all of us. For my part, over the years and still now after having swept through different musical genres, I like to listen to the Blondie songs old or recent but also to watch their videos where I often found a comic side introduced by this pretty and fascinating woman, oddly enough.Those who are very dedicated fans, or were much more involved in the punk scene, and are far more familiar with the atmosphere of that time and place, may not glean anything new from this memoir, but I’m sure the trip down memory lane will be worth your time.

There are a lot of descriptive scenes of New York in the 70's and name dropping of people of whom some I were familiar with but others that I had to look up.

Personally I found it very insightful and was projected in a very fantastic way, Debbie Harry has had an extraordinary life, which she often acknowledges, she certainly acknowledges her fans and pays a great deal of homage and respect to them by illustrating the book with a multitude of fan art. Through it all – while being acclaimed as one of the most beautiful women in the world, prized by a galaxy of leading photographers and fashion designers, beloved by legions of fans for her relentless, high-octane performances, selling 50 million albums or being painted by Andy Warhol – Debbie Harry has infused her perennial Blondie persona with a heady mix of raw sexuality and sophisticated punk cool. If you have the Making Tracks book from 1982 or the Cathy Che books on her you know the majority of her story and still you never quite get a grasp of who she really is as a person Person. Of course, I've since been listening to and watching Blondie concerts on YouTube for days afterward. It goes without saying, sadly, that this memoir will NOT teach you how to achieve Debbie Harry-levels of coolness, but we can't expect miracles.
