The DS723+ is the 6th generation after the DS720+, DS718+, DS716+, DS713+, and DS710+. The last two digits signify their model year. SMB1 (CIFS), SMB2, SMB3, NFSv3, NFSv4, NFSv4.1, NFS Kerberized sessions, iSCSI, HTTP, HTTPs, FTP, SNMP, LDAP, CalDAV A thing to note here is that you can use one Synology SSD drive for storage and the other for cache if you so desired to make use of both features. While you can’t boot from these drives at the time of writing without first installing standard drives on the main drive bays, this is a significant step in the right direction for Synology after years of users requesting for SSD storage capability. Following what I thought was a system failure on my Synology (very old DS412+), I was in a real bind for a couple of weeks. I was torn between replacing it with a DS920+ or waiting on the pending release of the much vaunted DS1522+. The agony! Surveillance Station includes 2 free licenses. Connecting more cameras and devices requires additional licenses.

I am just waiting for a Synology with ARM-processor in a DS15xx-series, guess I can live with my DS918 a couple more years since 1GBit is ok for me so far (just photo editing from my client and store data there).

This device’s 1GbE LAN ports have a maximum transmission unit (MTU) size of 1,500 bytes.The USB 3.0 standard was renamed to USB 3.2 Gen 1 by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) in 2019. percent what i have is 1080p. That is doing fine. But it is struggling with 4k. A DS1621xs was just to expensive. Thank you for the video. Every reviewer says that AMD is a step forward and everything flies. But frankly the celeron works much better with video encoding. I’d rather go with 1520 than 1522. 10Gbit is fine, but for home users 1Gbit is more than enough anyway. As for me 1522 is a downgrade. I bought DS923+ a month ago as a replacement for my aging DS414 and couldn’t be happier with it. All I need is a fast and reliable file server. With 10GbE add on card I can access the volumes as if they are internal PC drives. And I work in VFX business so I’m hitting my NAS hard all day. Couldn’t care less about the plex (which is fine with H264). I don’t understand what the fuss is all about. This is NOT a product for home users wanting a media server. This is a fast business file server. And it just works. Set it and forget it. And what all that QNAP OS crap I wouldn’t touch it if they were free.

The Synology DS723+ comes with a default 2GB of DDR4 Memory. The biggest difference here in comparision to it’s predecessor is that the memory modules are ECC (Error Correcting Code) which is normally found on higher tier enterprise grade appliances. ECC memory modules have an extra chip on board specifically designed to detect, correct and monitor common kinds of data corruption and they come at a much high price point in comparison to non-ECC memory. Based on internal processor benchmarks between DS923+ and the prior-gen DS920+. Actual performance may vary depending on hardware and software configuration, workload, and testing environment. As the name suggests, this is a dual-bay server that can hold two internal disks -- 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch hard drives (HDDs) or 2.5-inch solid-state drives (SSDs) -- by itself and then can host a 5-bay DX517 extension unit. So it can handle up to 7 drives by design.I did prepared 32 gb ddr4 Kingston (2×16 Gb), with 2 x 1Tb Samsung 980, for pool storage, 4 x 8 TB Seagate and 1 x 16 Tb Toshiba. I was looking forward to this NAS, or the 923+. Reading this there is no gpu in both of them, a better option would be the 720 or 920. Does their own DS video station app need transcoding? I found it funny you had the 10Gbs OPTION as a big positive, then you were pissed off at the end it wasn’t standard. Love your vids mate, you are the real NAS master and I’m sure you’ll rate higher in google than that rapper in a couple of years! 🙂 Wow. Synology DS723+ is a collection of avoidable annoyances to leave buyers hesitant and dissatisfied. Could have been great. Could have been acceptable. But, instead, is unnecessarily disappointing.

In one hand, I’m glad I’m still using Synology and not defecting to QNAP which is PoS on it’s own but this could drive off a large part of perspective Plus model buyers.I hate it that Synolgy on purpose choose to use these CPU’s. They are doing that deliberate. So you have to step up bigtime. Actually with a CPU and a build in GPU a lot of people would not buy their expensive Nas line. Synoly could have used a slightly more expensive CPU with build in GPU. And that would have cost us around 50 dollar more. But we all would have done that gladly. And it is really a stupid move from from Synology because a lot of people will be looking at Qnap because of that. So in the end it will cost them money. Actual maximum storage pool and volume sizes vary depending on drives used, the number of drive bays available, and the RAID configuration. I so remember when Illmatic hit in the 90s. I was i college. Legend. What’s wrong with 99 Problems. Still a nasty beat and a great song. As for Jay v. Nas. I like em both but Ether was nasty. Bodied him on that one. I am still a bit confused tho. I have watched many of your vids now, and every time (and you even show it) how the ds1520+ (same nas as i have) has integrated graphics. But still, when i try to use video station, it always absolutely EATS my cpu even with hardware decoding on. I sometimes cant even watch a video without some hiccups. Do i need to activate hardware decoding somewhere else to?
