Meg and Mog is a series of children's books written by Helen Nicoll and illustrated by Jan Pieńkowski. First published in the 1970s, the books are about Meg, a witch whose spells always seem to go wrong, her striped cat Mog, and their friend Owl. [1] The first book was published in January 1972. Following the death of Helen Nicholl in 2012, the series was continued by Pieńkowski and David Walser. The bold, deceptively simple artwork is a treat for children to absorb while the stories are funny and can be enjoyed countless times. We love these books and know you and your children will, too! Helen Nicoll was a television producer with the BBC for many years. It was here, as Producer of the children's educational series WATCH, that she first met Jan Pienkowski. After working together for four years, they decided it was time to preserve their creativity in book form for future generations of children to enjoy. The result is the immensely popular MEG AND MOG series. A successful stage play also ran in London in the 1980s, starring Maureen Lipman as Meg. [5] Titles [ edit ] Book series [ edit ]In addition to their work on the Meg and Mog series, both Nicoll and Pienkowski had successful careers on their own. Nicoll wrote several other children's books, while Pienkowski continued to illustrate books and work as a designer. Jan Pienkowski is a celebrated illustrator of children's books. He has won the Greenaway Medal twice - for his illustration of Joan Aiken's The Kingdom Under the Sea and for Haunted House. Jan lives in London.

Jan Pienkowski, meanwhile, was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1936. He moved to England with his family in 1946 and eventually studied at the Camberwell School of Art in London. He worked as a designer and art director for several publishers before teaming up with Nicoll. Sadly, Pienkowski passed away in 2022. Helen Nicoll was born in Bristol, England, in 1937. She was an avid reader from an early age and eventually became a librarian. She later married a fellow librarian, Robert Kime, and the two collaborated on several books for children before Nicoll's collaboration with Pienkowski. Sadly, Nicoll passed away in 2012. The bestselling MEG and MOG stories have been casting a unique spell for more than thirty-five years. Perfect for young minds (and their Daddy's). The story itself a bit of a let down. I was expecting more character development, more emotional angst - but there's nothing at stake here, nothing driving the tension... It's just a story about a witch, who lives with her cat and an owl. She gets ready to go out to a party, then goes to the party and the witches at the party all cast a spell, the spell goes wrong and turns the rest of the witches into mice (inexplicably sparing Meg herself), and the Meg's cat Mog chases the mice. The end. I mean.. who didn't see that twist at the end coming? But they cut out before the really juicy scene where Mog catches one of the mice, plays with it, teases it, slices it open, hooks out the purple wibbly organs with one claw, and eats the rest whole... Goods that by reason of their nature, cannot be returned - (Items such as underwear, where the 'hygiene patch' has been removed, or cosmetics where the seal has been broken). This is our second Meg and Mog book. We started with Meg on the Moon because I'm a sci-fi geek. Fin (my 18-month old son) loves that one very much, so we decided to get him the original for Christmas.
