For a supposedly introductory book, the chapter was too biased on the side of libertarianism, as compatibilism was reduced to a terrible straw-version of itself. The book clarified the subject for me, because since I have been studying Philosophy I haven't really fully understood the subject. Inwagen does a good job introducing the basics of this trippy field of thought, and you can impress your parents when you tell them you're studying metaphysics! If you are anything like me, you'll instantly realize that sentences about metaphysics never fully grasp the point you intended to make. If you hold to some kind of dualism or a compatibilism about free will, you would do well to read van Inwagen's positive arguments for his position and negative ones against yours. Van Inwagen argues for physicalism about the human person, and libertarian free will about said persons powers. Y mientras que "la forma de la Tierra" es una pregunta que se puede responder, al menos con la certidumbre del consenso científico, en las cuestiones metafísicas lo que aquí fue una parodia, un absurdo gracioso, en la exposición del libro se convierte en una lectura frustrante.

No empieza por esa parte y cuando por fin atiende el asunto es más bien para arreglar argumentos que, se supone, ha expuesto sus debilidades. Similarmente, cuando discute el problema de la identidad, de la consciencia y del libre albedrío, pasa de largo por muchos argumentos científicos que, cuando menos, acotan el problema y lo delinean mejor.
