Events lead to just two convicts, one from Korea and one from Japan, being the only living convicts on the island.

The series is actually adapted from The Kingdom of the Gods graphic novel, which is now officially available in English. While I like the role they play in Sieh’s development, I wish there was more of them as people apart from Sieh, gotten more development as characters in their own right. In an interview, Eun-hee elucidated further on the reasoning behind the episode, stating that "I decided to go with a special episode because I thought it would be more interesting.

During the Japanese invasions of Korea, Lord Hak-ju proposes a plan to Lord Hyeon to use the resurrection plant to transform the inhabitants of a nearby village into zombies to be used against the invaders. But as the unlikely pair race to find safety in a world gone mad, it becomes horrifyingly clear that humans aren’t the only thing they must fear. While it sports a lack of meaningful storytelling and an unsatisfying resolution, The Kingdom of the Gods remains full of fantastic art, bloody sword fights and zombie apocalypse mayhem. Of course, learning Sieh was the narrator did not put me off at all, at least in terms of his narrative voice: he is as excellent a narrator as Yeine and Oree were, which is a good thing because I think that any novel that attempts to use a first-person perspective must have a narrator with an interesting voice.

A short plot summary about the manga “The Kingdom of the Gods” would help many anime and manga fans decide whether they want to watch this show or not. There is Yi Moon, the young prince who offers Jae-Ha 60 ryo to protect him, who is young, scared, and yet bearing the weight of royalty that makes him see his companions and the dead as equal to him.

Having lost all of his bodyguards to an assassination attempt, he has no choice but to turn to the mountain bandit Jae-ha for help. The two unlikely travel companions stop in a small town and we quickly discover things are not what they seem in this world. Furthermore, he was excited at the prospect of a new director, joining the series in the second season, commenting that "Park In-je joined us for season two, and the new system of ‘making a TV series with people who make films’ was fascinating. Rafael Motamayor from GameSpot recommended the second season in his review by highlighting that, "Not to be outdone by Game of Thrones, Kingdom also serves as an intriguing courtroom thriller", further praising the narrative, by adding that it "doubles down on the viral aspect of the zombie outbreak, exploring its natural origin, how it spreads, and most frighteningly, how it evolves. We’re given an extremely violent introduced to this island and it’s inhabitants before fast forwarding a year into the future when pirates have arrived and believe the island to be deserted.

The South Korean political thriller treated viewers to some impressive storytelling and zombie-fighting action, and is likely to recieve a third season sometime down the line. The next day, a royal army arrives declaring the arrest of Lee Chang, but was actually sent by Lord Hak-ju seeking revenge for the death of Beom-il. Netflix approached Eun-hee, after Signal ended its run, to work on a future project that she could helm.

The Kingdom of Gods takes place about 100 years after the events of The Broken Kingdoms and centers around the godling Sieh.On March 14, 2019, it was confirmed that in the midst of filming the second season, a staff member in the production team died after a car accident.
