I was similar as a child, abandoned, bulied at school and was put away at age 8 for being very shy, inward and scared of people. His parents were not the best parents but they werent the worst either and they loved him despite all of the horrible things he did! My suggestion is to find a different book about Dahmer that is it’s sad that’s people can feel so much sadness and pain it leads them to do such awful and disturbing things. Using his long experience and psychological expertise, Berry-Dee seeks to understand the motivation, the amoral urges and the merciless horror behind Dahmer's inhuman behaviour: what could make a man do this?

He also gives off strongly mysoginist vibes as he paints the portrait of Dahmer's mother as the dominant negative influence in Jeffrey's life, leaving little leftover blame for the absent father. These aspects detracted from how seriously I felt the book could be taken as a factual account of the crimes and person of Jeffrey Dahmer. and the most salt of the earth good people can be trained and will willingly shoot and kill others in just a few weeks, anyone can. The horrible things people do usually comes from deep sadness and pain who don’t know how to properly cope. The biases and lack of policing and racism of this whole real life tragedy are what is most sickening and the police and county of this time and age should be ashamed and crucified.

Nobody gets born inherently evil (even if there are some predispositions, you still haven’t chosen this – and empathy in society for being different could have prevented a lot of escalations). Overall, if you've never read anything about Dahmer and enjoy true crime, definitely start with this author! The majority of psychopaths are frauds and they also choose careers that offer power and control over others such as CEO, surgeon, police officer or lawyer.Once you can get past the authors ego that bleeds into the pages of this book there is interesting information about Dahmer, however none of it is information that can't be found in other books about him. I agree that in such extreme court cases and crimes, you should look at the whole picture and try to understand the perpetrator’s motives and ways of thinking. None of the victims deserved to be drugged with sleeping pills, raped, mutilated, butchered, cannibalized, for any part of them to be preserved in formaldehyde, kept as a macabre trophy on his shrine of death.

There were a few things that I disliked about this book, the main one being the whole chapter that seemed to be dedicated to slagging off psychiatrists and psychologists. Not sure how I feel about his death… Did he deserve to be murdered, or should he have lived in prison until the day he died naturally?

As if that wasn't bad enough, Lionel waited until Jeffrey had been incarcerated for 15 murders (2 not accounted for in charges) before he admitted that he had also had disturbing and destructive behaviour related thoughts throughout his life!

The first chapter of the book had very little information on Dahmer or anything really relating to him except for the number of muscles a body has, litres of blood etc. Each chapter (some merely a page and half) devoted to his victims was such a brief description and lacked any depth at all. He dropped out of Ohio State University after one quarter term, and his recently remarried father insisted that he join the Army. He definitely did need help but I also understand the pain he caused his victims and their families.if you do not feel loved or liked by at least some othee human beings, then theres no love lost the other way either.
