This Friday the 13th 8-Movie Collection isn’t bad, but if you already have previously available sets there’s nothing new here worth picking up again. tracks, though Part II has a bit more ambiance to it, particularly in the bar scenes later in the film. The massive 16-disc box set houses all 12 movies in their individual clear, eco-elite keepcases with reversible cover art of vintage promotional posters.

The first four films use the new video transfers and audio mixes, but V through VIII are on the same two discs that date all the way back to the 2013 set. Of course, given their age and production limitations, the movies can suddenly fall to the softer side of things, and this is especially true when watching the 2D verison of Part 3 and for several chunks of The Final Chapter. Young Tommy Jarvis may have escaped from Crystal Lake, but he’s still haunted by his nemesis, the maniacal serial killer Jason Voorhees. And since Part V through Part VIII are the same two discs as before, there’s a lot of good stuff - but a bunch of material from the Scream Factory set was not ported over. Both are very active, particularly Jason Lives, which layers the score’s instruments all over the place, but also gives sound effects and ambient activity plenty to do.Part III is less interesting aurally than the previous two films as the focus was likely driven towards the visuals. A cemetery fills much of the bottom left and lightning can be see striking his recently opened grave. And speaking of, if Scream Factory can give similar treatment to the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, and maybe finally bring Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Blu-ray—we’d love that too.
