I would say most of the direct changes is in favour of the manga, is has far superior characterwork. Although some changes can be justified because their are sometimes a dozen chapters without any fight and just introspection and character building, which wouldn't translate well in anime format for some viewers. In the anime, several plantations detonate to break the walls of the Gran Crevasse. Whereas in the manga, a few detonate but a majority of them are destroyed by 001.

NOTE: I will not be comparing the manga series to the anime, but I will however mention the overall experience between the two in the end. In the anime, Zero Two’s picture book plays a major role in the series and she even rewrites a new version with a blank ending. Whereas, in the manga, it plays a very minimum role and she never rewrites the story. In the manga, Mitsuru offers to help Kokoro escape from Genista and he will self detonate to destroy the klaxosaur while apologizing for his failure as a partner. Kokoro refuses and tells him that he can rely on people and she will protect him. In the anime, Kokoro gets Mitsuru to confess the reason behind his grudge against Hiro. She also tells Mitsuru that she understands because she broke a promise with Futoshi but she still believes in him. In the anime, it was Alpha whose final words were it was fun and to give his regards to Zero Two. In the anime, it was Gamma and Beta.

I think Darling In The FranXX has a really good and original idea with a fine cast of characters. The build-up is interesting and the story develops well, there are good humour and romance.

As Delta never encounters the Klaxosaur Princess in the anime, she is not possessed by the Princess as she is in the manga.
