In the comics, I'm not quite sure. If all goes to plan, the animated series will continue the story beyond where the books leave her so people will hopefully find out that way. I don't plan to begin working on another Hilda comic imminently. But that said, I do feel the pull of certain stories I'd like to tell and directions I'd like a new book to take, so who knows. Hilda and the Midnight Giant The graphic novels are set in a fantasy world resembling a late 20th century Scandinavia place and are drawing inspiration mainly from Scandinavian folklore and folk tales and The Moomins. The titular character is a small girl, who in the first two books lives with her mother in a cottage on a plain surrounded by mountains and forests, but later moves to the city of Trolberg. Hilda’s world is inhabited by regular people and fantastical creatures like trolls, giants, elves, and spirits. In the fourth book, Hilda joins Trolberg's Sparrow Scouts. Although the rest of the series gets so much better, this first book is lovely and engaging. We are introduced to Hilda, a young blue-haired girl (perhaps around 10 years old in conception) who defines herself as an adventurer, taking every opportunity to explore the wild and put herself in perceived-but-safe harms' way. Fortunately, she lives in a fantasy land, with trolls that turn to stone in daylight and giant floating puffball mammal creatures, and the woodman. She lives in a remote cabin with her mother, who appears to be an artist or designer or architect of some kind. She does not show particularly good sense, nor does she think well in advance, in a way that is typical for her age but which is not reflected in children's books very well, I think, given how frustrating and terrifying this behavior is to adults.
