The drink was put into development in 2000 and was initially announced as Freekin' Soda in Late-2002 [23] for a release within the start of 2003, but was pulled following concerns about the brand's name being unsuitable for the brand's target audience of children and teenagers, and the word "Freekin" being linked as a milder alternative to a strong profanity, which would have made the drink unsuitable to be marketed on children's television channels at any time or any networks prior to the 9 pm Watershed.
