If you use acrylic paint as your preferred paint type for glass and want to seal it, it’s easy enough. Start by applying an acrylic sealant as a topcoat. This should be available in either a spray-on or a brush-on form. It will provide a glossy finish that prevents the paint from chipping and fading. Did you Know? Next, grab your primer. Considering the condition of the mirror before the cleaning, I’ve decided to prime this before painting as an added precaution. I don’t always use primer when painting furniture, but often do use it when painting something white. You can find more projects where primer is used here: Primer.Due to the ornate details of the mirror, spray primer is the best choice. This is the primer that I’m using ( here). When preparing to paint the surface, consider whether you want to achieve a stained glass look or an opaque and solid effect. For a stained glass effect, use a light coat of paint with delicate paintbrushes. But for an opaque finish, spray paint or pens will provide a vibrant and strong appearance. Curing Your Glass Use good ol’ household glass cleaner to prime your glass before painting. It does the job well and will leave your glass smelling lovely and fresh.

Paint a base color across your surface and then leave the paint to dry for at least an hour. Using a marker pen, lay out your design on the glass. Then begin to paint over the design. Allow each color or coat to dry before adding another. You should first prepare your surface. Clean the glass with warm soap and water to remove any oil. Make sure the glass is fully dry afterward. Otherwise, this may thin the paint – especially acrylic paints. Using rubbing alcohol on a cotton cloth may provide a better alternative for cleaning surfaces. You may wish to tape off certain areas, such as the rim of a drinking glass or cup.

Make sure that you spray the mirror frame on both the top area and the sides. Apply at least one coat of primer to your project. If you’re painting on brand new glass that you’ve bought especially, then chances are you won’t need to prime your glass before painting. Priming is more important for older glass items that have been handled a lot as dirt, oils and dust can hinder the paint from adhering to your glass. How to get paint off glass If you want to remove paint from glass, why not try nail polish remover? Tougher areas may require a sharp razor blade to remove the paint. This method may scratch some surfaces, so don’t try it on delicate objects. The type of paintbrush you use to paint your glass is also important. For example, a brush with synthetic bristles may leave visible brush marks. This may not be suitable if you want a subtle finish. But it may be a good choice for a rustic and unique design! You can try using gold leaf sheets like on this small accent table, but I can assure you that I won’t be messing with the messy sheets of gold leaf now that I have discovered this liquid gold leaf paint. The great thing about liquid gold leaf is that you can easily apply it to wood surfaces, like on these DIY gold leaf coasters. But for now, this pretty mirror is heading home.Glass is a great medium to paint on and can produce a variety of stunning effects, depending on the glass and type of paint being used. You can paint on a glass pane and produce an effect much like canvas or create opaque colours like a stained glass window. You can also paint on bottles , jars , vases, glassware and a variety of other objects, including porcelain and ceramic tiles if the right paint is used. In addition to my standard cleaning process, I also decided to use a scrub brush to get into the crevices and detail areas of the mirror.
