Is it cheap? Not exactly. You’ll definitely find a decent 55-inch 4K TV for less. However, considering that non-smart 1080p projectors from BenQ, ViewSonic and HP sit at its price point, you’re absolutely getting a lot of value for your money here. Meanwhile, high-end 1080p smart home projectors, like the Xgimi Horizon, are more than double the price.Considering the fairly mediocre performance of other projectors of about the Elfin’s size, you might be forgiven for thinking that the Elfin would be equally weak, but in fact the Elfin offers the best performance in any portable LED projector that I have seen. It offers a brightness of 800 ANSI lumen portable – that’s bright enough to light up a small dark room – which should give you an enjoyable viewing experience that’s easy on your eyes. In fact, that’s bright enough that you can still use it in the daytime as long as it’s indoors in a non-brightly-lit room. Yes, there are brighter projectors out there with better dynamic range or more vibrant colors, but bear in mind that this is a portable projector. And, for a portable projector, it’s pretty great. The XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro and Elfin projectors are both very similar, and both have a lot of overlap in the kinds of people they would be best suited for. Image quality and brightness is very impressive overall, and even the sound is good enough for casual use.

Speaking of, the included remote handles all interfacing with the Android TV 10.0 operating system installed, and the remote does a fine job, though the system can be a little slow to react to Google Assistant commands. The interface is fairly intuitive, but XGIMI has still failed to deliver Netflix support. Finally, there’s a USB port on the rear, which lets you plug in storage for offline viewing. Features The Elfin projector isn’t an approved Netflix device, so even through Google TV is the OS, you’ll probably still want to use a cheap streaming dongle as the easiest way to access the streaming service. Again, it shows itself most on darker shades of a color that fill a large area. That’s bad news for anime fans, but it won’t always rear its head in live-action content where textures and fine details preclude the flat colors that run into the dithering problem. In practice, I never hear the Elfin when watching a movie, but can hear the Elfin in quiet moments. Smart portable projectors often come with compromises that are hard to swallow. The resolution is not what was advertised. The processor is too slow. There aren’t enough features. It wobbles. It’s very clever and means that no matter where you plug in the Elfin, you’ll get the best picture possible. Of course, you can override the settings if you want manual control. Performance

But, the Elfin suffers in the same ways as the XGIMI Halo when it comes to darker content. It doesn’t provide a lot of detail in the dark, making it hard to see. And, for static areas in the dark, it has the same dithering issue we’d seen before, where we see a color rapidly switching between shades to simulate a color but failing to switch fast enough to be imperceptible. As with XGIMI’s other projectors, the Elfin runs Android TV natively. That certainly makes setup easier, particularly if you have an Android phone – you can beam your settings directly to the projector. The Elfin supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi 5. Auto keystone correction will always get you a square picture, although it’s best to try to get the Elfin as square on as possible first. New to this projector is Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance – if the projector spots a light switch or other protrusion, it will adjust the screen size to avoid it. Testing on my wall, the Elfin automatically avoided the consumer unit on the wall.Thanks. They’re both about the same in the daylight and work best with the curtains closed, at least. This value is the theoretical projective size. To obtain a optimal viewing experience, the recommended projective size is: 40″-120″ (MoGo Pro, MoGo Pro+, Halo, Halo+, Elfin).

We did spot some rainbow haloing around brighter objects when they move, which often occurs with projector that use DLP technology, but it’s nothing too distracting. You can adjust image settings to a reasonable degree (turning off the annoying motion smoothing is a good start, particularly if you’re watching films) and HDR is supported in its HLG and HDR10 forms. You can even project a 3D image, although we’re fairly sure the demand for this died out around a decade ago.Another cheaper option is the Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2. This has a 500 ANSI Lumens projection and runs Android 9 complete with Netflix certification.
