In fact, both baffles appear to my untrained eye to be half the diameter of the tube. That is, the opening in the baffle is about half of the opening of the tube in which they are located. Would removing these baffles prove beneficial?

A good case in point to the original situation is my 6335 Sears. I t has the two piece drawtube with .965 EP's and though the scope worked great in its original configuration, I just knew that it could work better. In the long run I ended up making an adapter that did not alter the scope in any way yet it lets me now use a full array of 1.25" EP's and the increase in performance is amazing.
