Description

Internal hub grease. This is with calcium hydroxide 5-10%, white solid lubricants 2-3.5%, & 2.5-4.1% bentonite, other additives and mineral oil. This grease is calcium-based for wash-resistance, and temperatures are not high. There are some applications where you should only use the approved grease and using the wrong grease really will cause a problem. This includes roller brake grease. This is critical to use the exact grease specified, and unsafe to substitute anything else. Besides these other manufacturers sell different greases for the same job, often with different compounds. Different criteria will include:

Take a zip tie and gently push it into the seal, as far as it goes. There may be some air in there. Now that the fork is full of the correct bath oil, slide the lowers far enough on to the upper tubes so that the damper rod and air spring rod come out of the lower legs. Place the appropriate Fox crush washers in to place and thread both bottom nuts on by hand. Contamination or damage to the Pressure Relief Valve Assembly can cause an oil leak that allows the post to travel up when unweighted and down when weighted by a rider without actuation of the remote lever. Here we are using Sram Butter. Apply a layer of Sram Butter to the inside of the dust seals. This will help keep the fork lubricated and feeling supple. Some greases really are special. But in other cases the grease doesn't really matter. Since so many companies just say to use their approved grease, it can be hard to tell apart which applications are really special and which ones don't really matter.We need to make sure we have all the right tools for the job. For starters, you will need Fox 20wt Gold Fork Fluid, Fox 5wt Teflon Infused Fork Fluid, Fox 36 foam rings, and Fox crush washers. I am fairly sure they didn’t have to use liquid gold in my Ducati forks when it was serviced. But I might be wrong. MRP: We recommend cleaning your seal areas with a mild soap and water mix periodically, sooner rather than later if there is significant dirt build up.

I’d be very surprised if the slightly higher coefficient of friction of the Mobil would be noticeable in the slightest on fork seals tbh. Sounds a bit like the snake oilesque low stiction SKF seals that some folks fit. The coatings on the stanchion are porous, they hold a small amount of oil to lube themselves during use.

MUC-OFF: Start by hosing down thoroughly to remove any dirt but do not force water into the seals. The foam rings sit right underneath the dust wiper and are designed to catch any dirt that gets past the dust wiper. Over time the foam rings can collect a lot of crud and dry out. Slide the Lower Post up to expose the Shaft and Shaft Lug. Take note of the position of the ball bearing and mark the anti-rotation hole that the ball bearing was found in. Obviously , it is a very special lube, mined from a single cave on a long lost island, and can only be harvested at midnight. is this the Float fluid that gets flushed out of the foam rings by the lower leg oil as the fork compresses? Not owned Fox for a while but seem to remember they changed the recommended oils for forks and binned Float off the list at one point. Internal hub maintenance oil and SG-S700 oil. Other IGH will require oil as well, e.g. Rohloff oil Hydraulic mineral oil - this is for disc brakes, and is different from DOT fluid. Different hydraulic mineral oils do have different boiling points, and different viscosity.Loosely position the Upper Post upside down in the Upper Bushing and Seal Installer (PN: 803-01-200) so the Upper Bushing rests on the tool. Push the Lower Post down against the tool to install the Upper Bushing. When no new bubbles appear while cycling the Shaft, fully extend the Shaft and remove the Shaft Lug with the Internal Spool Valve Compressor tool. Install the appropriate IFP Height tool for your post, then reinstall the Shaft Lug with the Internal Spool Valve Compressor tool. Transfer Travel Free hub seal grease . This is not for freehubs in general but is specifically for Shimano's Microspline seals, and for specific seals there. The datasheet gives the same basic constituents as the previous one, but it might be different.
