I have never read a Tom Gates book before, but I dived headfirst into book 9, incredibly impressed by the fantastic layout of this book. It’s filled with tons of different fonts and different font sizes, there’s drawings of the characters in various situations and it feels like it’s interactive (even though it isn’t). It’s fully immersive and that’s incredible. I’m TRYING to get voted onto the school council as well – but thanks to the ABOVE list it’s not exactly going to plan. My grandson loved it . Had previously bought all the Tom Gates books for my 7 year old grandson and from being a reluctant reader he absolutely loved them., so when “Random Acts of Fun” came out it was a no-brainer. It's warm-hearted, and while not having any kind of moral (other than keep your artwork to yourself and/or on the constructive side) it does feature a recognisable situation. Tom certainly is recognisable – as is the very series, with its full-on doodled covers.
