These are two guys that you'll be rooting for from beginning to finish. I absolutely loved the way that Ryan is with his family and their quirkiness. Considering the cold detachment of Wes's family, it was wonderful to have such a warm family dynamic on the other end.

Seriousy though, sometimes it seems to take over half the book in a GFY for one or both parties to decide to throw caution to the wind and get things started. Jamie and Wes are having a blast living and working in Toronto. Until a scout for another team swoops in to make one of them an offer that might complicate the life they’ve built together. I promised Wes I’d keep up appearances at least until the end of his rookie season. Coming out now would only hurt his career, and I’d rather take a bath in a tub full of glass shards than be the one to cost Wes his dreams.” The story starts a couple of months after Him ends. Wes and Jamie live together now; Wes dream has come true: he is having a terrific rookie season at NHL, and he is also having the man’s heart he loved in his whole life. But his happiness is not spotless. Wes doesn’t believe he can have both the most important things in his life at the same time. In fear of coming out would damage his career, Wes and Jamie decide to keep their relationship hidden till the end of the season, keeping the media focused on Wes’s game not on his sex life. I don’t know how to explain what’s wrong. I’ve been really unhappy, but I don’t want him to think it’s his fault.This novel had also plenty of funny moments. These guys made me laugh as much as they made me swoon. Their banter was so great and I liked how easily they interacted with each other and how every single one of their interactions felt natural. Nothing between them felt forced. Their bond felt real and even if four years had passed since they saw each other, their connection it’s stronger than ever. If we meet these guys in the final, we’re in for a world of hurt,” Coach says grimly. “I want you to watch this goalie. The kid’s sharp as a hawk. We need to find his weakness and exploit it.”

And the authors do a great job of keeping their readers grinning throughout the book’s run. When it comes down to West actually telling Jaime any of that, or making any kind of gesture to give Jaime the impression that he truly cares? But listen, even with my slightly rant-ish points, I still don't regret giving this book a try. Although again, I rarely do with books, since I believe that even a bittersweet experience can be enriching. Besides, if I were to erase those issues I had… the book was mostly enjoyable. These two were ABSOLUTLELY BEAUTIFUL TOGETHER. I could feel their attraction at the first heated kiss. Not all is roses and sunshine for our boys. Wes and Jaime and both in the closet at work and publicly. They both feel coming out will damage Wes's rookie career. This makes their personal lives miserable since they can't go out and be themselves and they have to carefully censor their words to their friends and co-workers. The sex is still hot, but their situation clouds the joy felt in the first book. Wes and Jaime start to tip-toe around one another and the angst comes to a boiling point that is resolved in a spectacular HEA.

Ok, those of you who are masterful in the art of reading between the lines (because subtlety is my specialty, obvs) have probably realized by now that Wes wasn't exactly my favorite. Yet I couldn’t list the positives of this book and not comment on this man's absurdly entertaining thoughts. By this point and after several of his dismissals of Jaime’s orientation, Wes had begun to get on my nerves.There's an old quote my mother once painted on a ceramic platter. Love is friendship set on fire. I get it now.”I loved the continuation of Wes and Jamie's story as much as the first book. We get to see them learning how to be a couple in this one and though you feel the love, their relationship is not always hearts and flowers.
