You’ll increase your ability statistics, optimize your equipment, and even interject your own personality into the character, as you interact with NPCs and make decisions within the world around you. GBG should have cards that players can put in their tableau to show that they have these cool items and to serve as a reminder that they are there to be used (and to remind players that they take up space in their inventory). In fact, I do like how the combat is designed as a way to break up the potential monotony of having too much combat. This introduces a strong tactical element to balance out the narrative and allows a player to dig into something more tactile. Setting up Folklore will take some time as there are a number of decks to be sorted, shuffled, and laid out as well as plenty monster cards and tokens placed so they’re easily on hand.

A+++ Took meticulous care in packing, shipped quickly, and described the item perfectly when listing. You'll end up with a big cluster of standees in a one part of the adventure map, simply taking turns rolling D100. It may make the game a little easier, by having more items available in town, but if that worries you make the market 'dynamic': Every time you visit shuffle the marketplace cards, and remove 2-3 at random - dwindling supplies are an every day occurrence for the citizenry of Kremel.

I can’t say this is a cardinal sin or anything because I’m a guy who wishes that Final Fantasy went back to using the ATB or simple turn based combat. Folklore takes alot of inspiration from these RPGs and does a good job of making the planning of your journey a fun element.This controller will not only continue to make tactical decisions for their own character but also move and roll for the foes. Many times this will require one, some, or all of the characters to successfully pass a skill check against a predetermined difficulty number. Attacking is fairly simply as a character may chose an adjacent target if a melee weapon is equipped or a target in range if using a ranged attack. No game is perfect though, and the more I played the more some issues other players and reviewers noted did become apparent. I highly recommend at least one player to have given the rules a solid read through before sitting down at the table.

For those of you who have enjoyed The Witcher books and video games, Folklore is channeling that type of world.Folklore is a game that needs to be played, and I desperately hope that it finds an audience among influential game designers. These moments remain memorable even weeks later and I anticipate the full game will supply many more across plays. Just know that you are always right if you are making a ruling to maximize the fun your group is having. I’ve found it a bit punishing for 2 players, but we do keep coming back to it (and we haven’t got past Dusk level adventures yet). The setting and many of the details are given a haziness that allows the audience to generally recognize the setting without focusing on the anachronisms that pop up at a steady pace.

There seems to be some scale issues with some figures (especially the humanoid ones) and the Vampire mini has two right hands. Part boardgame, part role-playing, I found the world and game play of Folklore to be extremely enjoyable.
