This book basically says that cheating on your significant other is fine, because love can overcome even that. And then the book ended, everyone is happy, Maxon and America are married, yay, end of story. Thanks for the torture.

The One by John Marrs and Netflix’s thriller start with the same idea, but veer off from there. The basic premise of each is the same. Both revolve around a tech company founded by a brilliant woman who claims she’s able to match people with their soulmates. But that’s about where the similarities end. Jade and Mark deny their feelings for one another until Kevin's death. The night they finally sleep together, Mark's mother, Susan, catches Jade coming out of her son's room. That's when Mark confesses everything: Kevin never got a match. Jade has been Mark's match from the beginning, and Mark let Kevin believe it so that he would hold on to some hope. The revelation is devastating for Jade, who had convinced herself she was a terrible person for not falling in love with Kevin. The One” takes an enticing idea –what would happen if everyone could be romantically paired with their perfect match by DNA? – and squanders that by turning it into a mundane mystery. It’s not bad, as Netflix’s British binges go, but nor does the eight-episode run foster much of a love connection.Maxon - Oh sweet Maxon <3 He learns to trust in this book. They can't just randomly happen and then conveniently the people who need to die for there to be a HEA die and then somehow that magically fixes EVERYTHING and NO. When George R. R. Martin kills people, he does it to complicate the plot. Not to just have it happen. Not to resolve things. NOT AS AN ENDING. And then there's the fact that the action is SO CLUNKY, so unrealistic, so poorly described, that i just laughed laughed because it lasted so long and some people could free and others bled out under tables and America did nothing and oh god horrible action scenes are horrible.
