What metal palette would the 36 set for into. The box was damaged when I received it but cubes made it thru the ordeal. The original box was bent in half making it hard to carry around. Prese help.

Simply put, when you put a wet brush onto the surface of the watercolor, how much pigment gets lifted off the surface, onto your brush? Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors lift great. That means there is plenty of pigment on your brush with little effort to get it there. No scrubbing your brush on the surface trying to get extra pigment and no adding layer upon layer of color, just to get any joy out of the vibrancy your project has. In the largest set with the metallic colors, the Gold (often referred to as bronze), Bluish Gold (often referred to as gold) and Silver (sometimes referred to as “that pearl color”), are just amazing. The vibrancy of the all the colors is wonderful. As with all of the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors, they lift with little effort at all.

These swatches above are from the Kissho Gansai set. The distinguishing difference is for Kissho, there's a tendency for the colours to dry with a hard edge. Hence you have to be more careful when using Kissho especially if you desire a flat wash. You can create flat washes much easier with Kuretake. A:Since Gansai Tambi is a pigment-based paint, it is lightfast as long as not too much water is mixed in, but please be noted that the more water is mixed in, the weaker the lightfastness becomes. Also, if I let them dry in my palette, they just turn into big flakes which makes them impossible to transport. Have you had this issue? I’m wondering if I got a bad batch or something.

Thank you for this review. I also use Kuretake Gansai and I love them! I am in the process of learning watercolors and I really like that there are so many colors in the set (I have the 36 pans set). What I like about the paints is also the size of the pans itself – they are big enough for large size brushes, without getting paint in the neighboring pans.Handmade Watercolors - Glittery / Sparkly / Shimmering / Metallic Paints - Set of 12 Half Pans - Grab Bag Cake or pan watercolors are dry in a little pot area. You can re-hydrate them when you apply a wet brush to the surface. Generally speaking, this type of watercolor will offer less vibrant color than tubed watercolor, if you just dab a wet brush to the dry color and apply to your creative surface. As you can see, you can easily achieve flat washes with Kuretake Gansai Tambi. The colours would have that pastel-like feel but overall colours are still quite vibrant. For this particular set, it works well for pen and ink sketches as you can still see the lines show through beneath.
