If the modem isn't connecting to the internet, then I would say that is the first thing to sort out, then worry about connecting the router to it afterwards. Thank you for posting that Draytek explanation. I still find it difficult to understand exactly what is meant. If you use DrayTek's ACS-SI management platform, you can use that to roll out the new firmware to all products en-masse.

I have achieved comparable speeds and stability from using Billion 8800NL and 8800NL/R2 routers configured in modem only bridge mode (and wireless disabled). I currently have these configured and ready to go, as standby modems if my Vigor 130 was ever to fail. To show more detailed line statistics, enter "vdsl status more" (or "adsl status more" for an ADSL line)With the Vigor 130 modem now configured to bridge VDSL to Ethernet with no VLAN tag added by the modem, the router can be configured to use this.

The difference between modem and router is their place in the ‘internet-chain’. Modems connect to the internet directly, translating code and messages, but cannot create a local connection.
