You’re left starting this book thrust straight into action with Ben Harper saving a masked man from a burning building but this would open up a can of worms when a body is found cast into the foundation of a derelict building. We first started with Twelve Secrets, and now here we are with Eleven Liars, the second book in the series highlighting journalist, Ben Harper. I did finish the book and the storyline, which was quite interesting, came to end with the mystery concluded, however there is the ongoing case for the next book. I thought that the characters were well developed, some I liked, some I didn’t and I think its things like that which make the story more of a real read as I certainly don’t like everyone I meet in real like. The strength of this book is how many of the townspeople appear suspicious, so you're never sure who to trust.

There was some repetition in this book where it’s repeating the events that occurred in the first book, which is good if you need a refresher or if you plan to read this book as a stand-alone (which you definitely could! Gold has weaved a very complex family backstory for Dani and the further into the story you go, the more is explored and some of the revelations are a definite eye-opener.I would even say that it’s better than the first one, which is amazing because Twelve Secrets was brilliant. A satisfying crime thriller that sucks you into the vortex of a close-knit community jolted by lies and violence ― lovereading. As the police investigate the fire long buried human remains are discovered which turn out to have a major significance for Ben’s friend, Dani Cash who is a policewoman who has helped Ben on a previous case.

But it’s well worth the effort as the story takes you on quite the rollercoaster ride with twists and turns, unexpected reveals and lots of surprises. I grew up in Isleworth, living opposite the West Middlesex Hospital (a place that is mentioned in the story) and had relatives living in Twickenham. The multiple characters and threads to this story, simply showed me a clever, thoughtful and insightful author. Right from the very beginning we dive straight into the story and become totally immersed in the world of Ben Harper and Dani Cash.As always the story is expertly crafted to start off as something very simple a fire in a community centre a variety of characters stories are interwoven into the main story to give it depth and give uou a good hook in. This is the second book in the series and even though I hadn’t read the first one it didn’t seem to matter too much there was a bit of a recap at the beginning without giving any big details away. In my review of Twelve Secrets I mentioned that I would have liked to get to know PC Dani Cash a little more. This one crime unravels other crimes, to which Ben is determined to get to the bottom of, and starts to investigate with his police officer friend, Dani. The story is mostly told from Ben's perspective; but we do get chapters from Dani, both in the present and past.
