And he concludes all the storylines in a way that I didn’t quite anticipate, and it works quite well — since at its heart it’s not a story about winning or losing, but about the power of understanding and empathy and bonds between us. This is the third book in a series, and though the review will be spoiler-free for this title, it will definitely include spoilers for the earlier books: Shards of Earthand Eyes of the Void. From the initial altercation with an Architect by the two Intermediaries aboard the SkipJack and Gran Brigitte, respectively, the action does not relent. It is pointless to the rest of the novel and story; it treads THE EXACT SAME GROUND as the second half of Eyes of the Void.

Closing the covers of my hardcover edition and putting the book back on its shelf had me sigh contently.

Can we talk about how freaking amazing all these alien species and cultures and worlds and just NEW imaginings this book inspires? Tchaikovsky has become one of my favorite current SF authors, but Orbit Books blatantly exposes their Revenue Generation priorities in the editing and packaging of this space-opera. The pacing as usual is top notch – Tchaikovsky doesn’t let the story settle for too long before ramping things up again, and this time the entire last third of the book just builds and builds, as the peril and stakes get higher and higher.Clarke Award, Lords of Uncreation is the final high-octane instalment in the Final Architecture space opera trilogy. From Idris, Solace, Olli and Kris the humans from the incredible cast of alien creatures including Kit, Ash, Aklu and many more, a huge world with cultures and quirks is expanded on with each book.

It can showcase many aspects of t Idris argues against the extermination of the Architects and senses in their strangely artistic way of reworking the planets they destroy “the expression of their grief at being made to do the will of monsters. I don't think it's bad, it just became and focused on the wrong things in a series I thought would be character driven and instead was meant to be a huge action series instead. I've had the ARC of this from Netgalley for a while, but kept not getting around to it for one reason or another, and while half of that was having only just read other Tchaikovsky ARCs, because have I ever mentioned that he has a ridiculous rate of productivity, I think part of it was worry.

Something is struggling to be born in this damaged and inspiring world, and I believe science fiction and its speculative cousins are helping us figure out what it is. But what I’ll remember most is how he crafted the perfect emotional resolution to this intellectually intricate tale that left me in tears and has stayed with me since. The only problem is that their turf happens to be Unspace, the place between things where nothing actually exists while it is there.
