The vertical and horizontal swing is nice, but unfortunately it cannot be limited to a specific position. Perhaps the best thing about this fan, though, is that you can use it either as a pedestal fan or a floor fan – or even put it on a bedside table at low speeds – just by adding or removing one section of the stalk. This means there’s less height, and height adjustment, than on other pedestal fans, but the Duux more than makes up for it with its sheer versatility.

The square tower design is sleek and modern, standing at just over a meter tall, with a silver body. The base is reasonably wide, which keeps it stable, but does take up a reasonable chunk of floor space. In night mode, the display turns off completely after 10 seconds to ensure a good night\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s sleep. The display can be activated again by pressing the control button. At the lowest speed the fan produces only 13 dBa and thanks to the double blade design the cutting wind noise is reduced. It just would have been nice to have an option to turn the fan off completely without having to unplug it and let the battery or battery fully discharge if you leave it in. Bladeless fans also have multiple other benefits that you might not have considered. Some fans have an ionisation filter, which sterilises the air as it passes through, as well as a HEPA filter that removes 99% of particulates out of the air, great for hayfever and people who might have breathing issues.On the downside, it’s one of the more expensive fans and if you don’t need one that will heat as well, you could save money with one of the others on our list. Firstly, the fact that you don’t have to get up to adjust it. This might just seem like an excuse for laziness, but it’s also invaluable as a time saver if, for example, you’re working and don’t want to keep getting up to adjust the airflow in your office. A smart fan is relatively simple to describe. It’s literally a fan that can be controlled through Bluetooth, using your phone or other devices.

One thing I wasn't clear about from the online description of this fan is what's meant by the fact it's 'height adjustable'. I imagined you'd have full control over the height setting between the shortest 60cm and tallest 104cm settings with the ability to move the fan head up and down on a sliding scale, but this isn't the case. As one of our reviewers said, 'It's the only fan I can get to sleep with; it's so quiet. If I wasn't able to feel how powerful it was, I'd forget it was even on'. High praise indeed considering the headache-inducing drone that a lot of fans produce whilst they're operating. This is a missed opportunity, it would have been a very nice feature if this could have been adjusted via the app to set the most effective range of the fan. It’s an interesting proposition, but there’s no point adding smart features if the underlying fan isn’t up to it. We were keen to put it through its paces. You are better off with the ordinary Duux Whisper . This one is around 120 euros at the moment of writing. To provide the necessary stability for the floor-standing configuration, this fan’s base seems a bit large in desk fan mode. Its most notable feature is the big, round control panel and display near the front. This is clearly reminiscent of Nest thermostats, working in a similar way: turning the ring scrolls between menu items, and pressing selects one. It works well once you’re used to it, but the ring doesn’t feel particularly happy about turning. My sample had a mis-aligned and poorly fitted glass top, too. Obviously, a smart fan is more expensive than a standard, non-smart fan, but it’s a reasonable investment once you factor in the costs and savings.Best fan ever! I have a Dyson fan of 400 euros but so happy I bought this. The natural mode where it simulates wind like outside is amazing. In that mode it will automatically adjust the speed to simulate the wind outside. In this mode you can still set the max speed which is great. Swiveling horizontal and vertical is completely without noise. It works very well but I don't even use it. I have positioned it in the middle at the foot end of the bed and both me and my girlfriend feel the air. With natural mode on the fan and ocean sounds on Google home it's like we are lying on the beach! I don't understand people saying it's too expensive. It's 99 euros or 149 euros to have it with wifi so you can control with an app and Google home. The fan is super quiet. If I set it to a position that matches the air strength of the Dyson this Duux is very quiet while the Dyson sound like a jet taking off. A conventional fan chops the air which causes that vibrating sounds so typical of those fans. This fan has a double blade design which fixes this vibrating for a large part. Read more Like many fans, there’s a ‘natural wind’ mode designed to mimic a real breeze. This is usually a less-than-convincing cycle through three clearly discernible speeds, but with unusually fine speed control, the Whisper Flex actually pulls it off. There’s also a Night mode that switches off the display and hushes the command beep. Infuriatingly, you can’t switch the latter off altogether. Then its time to fit the fan to the base, this slots on easily as long as you make sure to align the larger of the two pins in the motor with the largest of the holes on the base plate. If you turn on this swing position, the fan will do the full range both vertically and horizontally. We like this fan’s smart capabilities. Duux’s app is easy to use, and the fan is easy to control by voice or integrate into your smart home routines. However, unlike an air conditioner or heater, there’s little point running a fan when nobody’s in the room. This makes us question just how much value the capability adds, fun though it is.
