Kokorico" seems to me to be the forerunner of fragrances like Sentifiques "Testostérone", Diors "Sauvage" and all the powerhouses whose virility often overflows buses, trains, supermarkets. The lesson here is to never make your mind up based on how a fragrances smells off a scent strip. Off the strip, it smelled herbal and leafy and NOT in a good way.

The uniqueness of the fragrance, design of the bottle, and coupled with outstanding deal, Kokorico deserves a shot. The bigger message - it is OK to be different - it is what makes the "world go around". If the longevity and projection/sillage were greater, this would be a first class fragrance. All things considered, I still highly recommend adding to your collection. Otherwise I cannot explain the warm spice, the dark dense low, the tender scratching, the "Kokorico" on my woman's skin exudes after an almost two lashes long prelude of watery light green, latent fruit. That sounded hopeful, that sounded like Habenwill - I had to ask to make sure I had understood him correctly.Out of the bottle, I get the burst of cacao notes that settles into a pleasant blend of patchouli, vetiver, and "woodsy" notes. It leaves curiosity, "gee, what is that smell?" to the user and those who "float across the wake" of Kokorico. Additionally, I would make a pitch that Kokorico would be an acceptable femine fragrance - almost Thierry Mugler Angel like... This fragrance is LOUD. It's sharp, intrusive, pushy, very dry and loud. In a very strange and unusual way. The cacao in this scent is very prominent (the best you can get in a drugstore). But for me the cacao is too real, like this wouldn't be a fragrance. Lastly, it does have a "reminiscent" feel of Azzaro Visit!! I don't know how, but it does. Like a person you see in your passing that you must admit they favor your over all description, but they are not you or look like you. Strange, I know...

When the drydown arrives, you still waiting for the "Ba Ba Boom" aspect in it, but sadly, everything is pretty much gone. It's like you spilled yourself with a mixture of cacao and alcohol, adding some way too masculine spices (sharp, green, unpleasant type of vetiver). And the fig leaf is the missing weed note for the terrible explosion. Kokorico" is a warm, soft, dark, velvety, yet thoroughly masculine fragrance that women can still wear without hesitation.After this short hint of freshness, it becomes dark (again) - resins and consecrated smoke combine with pencil cedar and a fine sweet that seems to come from chocolaty rather than gothic patchouli. After 5 or 10 mins, it is a "cocoa and fig leaf subtle green sweet plant stem" smell that engulfs you. The patchouli in this composition was done well! It give it a dampness that makes this a very interesting scent. I know some YT reviewers say it is a dry scent, but I do not get that. It actually smells like this could be someone's natural body scent; like a familiar scent of someone's home. This is very natural and not skanky or musty. Kokorico is, in my opinion, a cologne of few surprises, in gourmand style, but isn't that sweet thanks to the base notes, which give a dry tone to the final aroma. It fits very well in colder climates or nighttime events.

kk i ve had this for 2 weeks now. blind bought it because this was never introduced to the north american market and the price was good. i knew about all the hate for this fragrance but since im a huge fan of JPG and having owned le male, fleur le male and gaultier 2 i owed it to myself to try this one out. oh boy am i glad i did and quiet frankly i dont get the hate. For the first time since years i smelled a designer fragrance (this one) which is not that good (understatement)in the openening and dries down better as the old powerhouse scents did in the 80's !!

Off skin and in the air, it's a different story. After a 5 second burst of pungency, it goes to a shaving cream like vibe and progresses to show cocoa facets further on. The cocoa is partnered by a hefty dose of greenness owing to fig leaf and patchouli. The drydown is almost entirely patchouli. The next week, I was compelled to visit the Kokorico tester again. Will it smell like bananas and rum this time? It did! And more like figs and more like cocoa once the opening transitioned into the dry-down (a 2-5 minute process.) And that squeaky note? Vetiver. I looked it up on Fragrantica on my cellphone and suddenly I could notice all 5 of the notes quite clearly (which kind of supports my theory that many of the notes we think we smell can just be the psychology of suggestion.) There are plenty of other fragrances for men and women that share similar notes and do smell similar but I suppose when there is a large following for one fragrance or another and then another comes out that's shares some likeness then there are always going to be debates etc I suppose I respect the loyalty that people show to certain fragrances/fragrance houses.
